System Shock 2 - Full visual walkthough

Recommended Posts

Those of wondering what all the fuss is about when it comes to a lot of us mentioning this title, here's a full walkthrough of the whole game, which shows just about everything there is to see, only without the atmosphere of the engrossing sound effects and the actual narrative.

You're probably thinking that you've seen a lot of stuff before, Doom 3 for instance, note that Doom 3 copied a lot of ideas from SS2 which is why the game got hyped to be more than it was ever going to turn out to be. Also note that this game is from 1999, so there's bound to be plenty of things copied from it in other future titles.

Spoilers aplenty ahead:

Take note that there's a download for a piece of Shodan's dialogue there, back in the day hearing this for the first time scared the shit out of me :o

Enjoy.

It's not surprising that many of the members who worked on SS2 also worked on Thief. Those guys really know how to make great game experiences, and I love those guymes.

Played through SS2 sooooo many times. Truly awesome title, never forget the first time I came across it. Popped over a mates place for the evening, he loaded it up and said here you go play this, I gotta pop out get some smoke.

Two hours later when he returned I was sat in a corner under a blanket rocking gently *There's no place like home, there's no place like home*

(Well not quite but I did have to stop playing and turn all the lights on a couple of times).

Fave enemy Psy-Reaver, fave weapon, hmm maybe Viral Proliferator, maybe Worm Launcher, but then the energy rapier kinda rocked too once you maxed the skill out. Heh think I know what I'll be playing again after Stalker :)

Awesome find, didn't think about that!

:D

I think I will end playing it again soon too, because I can't run Stalker at the moment and it's the next best thing (well Stalker could be better for all I know, but I kinda doubt it..)

They also worked on Ultima Underworld and Deus Ex. It can be said that these people made the Top 4 of PC first person titles (imo). Don't get me wrong Half Life, Duke 3D, Doom, Quake etc. all were great games but none of them came close to the quality of these Looking Glass (later Ion Storm) games.

For anyone who doesn't know, Ken Levine the lead designer on SS2 has been working on Bioshock, the 'Spiritual Successor' to SS2 for the last X amount of years. It's due out in the Autumn.

New Teaser for it on Eurogamer today http://www.eurogamer.net/tv_video.php?p ... d=2471&s=l

The website is pretty sweet too http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/enter.html

Bioshock is my current most-wanted game. From what I've seen, it's going to have all the depth of story and gameplay as System Shock 2, coupled with stunning graphics and art direction. It may possibly follow the same format of SS2, where the game is divided up into themed sections (like the various decks of the Von Braun)

Of course, you'd have to be a complete cretin to read through the whole visual walkthrough without playing the game. Something wonderful would be forever ruined.

Didn't System Shock get heavily influenced by/ rip off Bungies Marathon series? The whole idea of the mad computer AI that manipulated you aboard a ship full of weird stuff

looks ok, i would probably play it if it didn't look so ugly - i like gameplay a lot but i also like having nice things to stare at as i soil my pantelooms.

It's not really that ugly tbh, there's a lot of detail around the levels, that video is too low-res to really show off that much. The default character models were always pretty low-poly though, but I've always maintained that it makes the game scarier because of the odd shape of some of the creatures.

I read through many walkthroughs without playing the game, it's never spoiled my enjoyment whilst actually playing them since it's a different experience, It's all subjective of course.
