Buddy
Not so long ago I installed FEAR SDK (1.0. and guys this editor is Amazing, so easy and modder-friendly, You can mod whatever You want using only a database editor (to add a weapon for example) (where you would need to code that in for source). WorldEdit is cool also, it has direct connection with Max, you can export your map to it and then get it back to main editor (along with entities and props!!!) I know it's a bit too late but fear gameplay owns and having more custom sp maps would rock:)
Quakis
I agree about having more custom Singeplayer levels would be good, isn't there at least 2 or 3 out there all in? I might check the editor out since I've fallen out with Unreal Ed...
VoodooBenshee
mh yeah i tried the editor one year ago ... and ... i must say for leveldesign is that workflow really bad. for really good designed brushwork it takes three times longer than making same in gtkr or hammer editor. but you are right, its really easy to handle but no fun in my opinion. anyway people using unreal ed could be having fun with fear sdk. but the funniest thing is/was: the dl-size ist 600 MB and unpacked/installed it was 10 GIGS!!! or so
General Vivi
must have changed quite a bit from the first time it came out . I got it just to see how it would be and i remember watching tutorials on how to set things up in the editor . I watched a video on how to make a round corner..... it took 40 mins to explain it or somthing. I dunno . . . . . i just didn't like it
Quakis
anyway people using unreal ed could be having fun with fear sdk. You've lost my interest already.
Sindwiller
Sounds like FEAR is data-driven, right? (like Darkwar, just that Darkwar will be better )
mjens
I didn't like F.E.A.R. The gameplay and engine wasn't so special, the game was boring but if you say that editor is so user-friendly it's good
Buddy
Anyway I'm making my minispmod for it. And making rounded corner is like pressing turbosmooth in max
Bl1tz
i must say for leveldesign is that workflow really bad. for really good designed brushwork it takes three times longer than making same in gtkr or hammer editor. Not true. Having used GTKRadiant and Hammer for years myself, WorldEdit is just as fast. It has slight workflow differences in terms of how you actually create world geometry, but it's mostly similar to the UED method. If anyone is interested in getting into it, I do use it in a professional capacity so if you have questions just post them in this thread or make a new thread and I'd be glad to help out. I'd love to see what talented mapcore people could do with the FEAR engine. And yes it is entirely data driven as buddy said in the first post so it is very very easy to get custom content into it. GDBEdit and StringEdit are very easy to use.
Buddy
Max Payne 1&2 engine / mapping abilities are good too, very easy map editor and it's datadriven too
hessi
i did never try out max payne editor. all i know for now: max payne does not run on winxp somehow. i tried several times but after loading the level it crashed with a windows error like "had to close the app suddenly". calling fear boring is exactly what i would do. i did never "flash" on that game. nice graphics here and there but ugly shadows and lighting. blocky leveldesign/-art. a friend of mine tried the fear SDK but he did quit because it seemed to be a pain in the ass. does fear have a big online community? i would bet its not as big as the unreal and half-life universe. if you call the editor so handsome i'd like to take a look on the whole stuff but atm i have no time. so why dont you make a beginner (video-)tutorial? EviLTaxi
mh yes, I recall having problems running Max Payne on xp aswell...what a shame. I really liked fear the first time I played it. I guess it was all the "new" slomo stuff (we already had slomo in mp years before in The Specialists ) and the shock effects. the second time it was nothing but boring. you get used to the massive special effects and know when to expect the shocking moments.
