Steppenwolf Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I recently found this awesome old air photo of my hometown: http://www.muar.ru/press_dossier/2006/skytoearth/altenburg.jpg It's from 1910. I thought it would be cool to see how its looks with colors and gave it a try in photoshop. Thats what i came up with: Like all colorized b&w photos it looks kinda artifical but im happy how some of the colors came out, especialy the trees. The technique i used was the following: For the basic colors i used a modern air photo as palette. I overpainted everything by hand in a new layer, which i mixed with the original photo. This alone looked very flat and not realistic. For more color variation i rendered different colored clouds in new layers and fiddled around with different mixing techniques till i was happy with the result. Quote
General Vivi Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 not bad. i think the hardest part would have been getting the roofs to look realistic. but you did a decent job . ^_^ Quote
hessi Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 the roofs in the bottom of the image are too saturaded. make them more grey/green the rest looks absolutly awesome! good stuff. Quote
e-freak Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 i love it! great job on altenburg Quote
Skjalg Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 I think its nice how you made the background seem like a really old photo with bland colors, and the foreground more like a modern thing Quote
TeddyBear Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Nice! One way to make it look less artificial is to enhance your color shade perspective a bit more, meaning the further away, the more washed out/desaturated colors you get. Right now it kind of looks the other way around. However, overall it's a terrific paintover Quote
EviLTaxi Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 hey that is one exceptional project! a good idea to do that there are a few spots that could probably use some more color like the ground in the lower left corner, that backyard. and the trees in the middle on the left near the houses. looking good! Your work made me curious and I searched for an old picture of my hometown but I haven't found anything on the net. maybe there are some in the town's museum Quote
Sindwiller Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Dude, you rock Your image just rocks. Nothing else to say! Quote
