⌐■_■ Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 So I recently signed up on the evilmod boards. I didn't quite know what to expect but I thought I could be of some help on the mappingsection. Anyway, I thought this mod looked cool and I wanted to check out it's community. After a short lookaround I noticed almost all sections were in German so I asked why that was, or if I maybe overlooked something. This was the reaction: http://board.evilmod.de/thread.php?postid=8116#post8116 I'm pretty surprised disappoined by the respectless approach of non-Germans. What's your opinion on this? Discuss.
mjens Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Everyone knows that most of Germans can't speak english They have to translate EVERYTHING, even cartoons It's shitty that good mods are only in German language and if someone don't understand that language he can't support it... Just fuck that and be happy that you can communicate with us
⌐■_■ Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 I am. That most Germans can't speak English surprises me! Didn't know that. WTF is wrong with their educational system then? They can't be all that dumb! Just look at the Swedes for instance. Their language is more different from English then the German language and yet they pretty much all seem to have a perfect sence of the English word? Also: why do they have to be such blunt dicks about it?
FrieChamp Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 So let me get this straight: You visit the board of a MOD team mainly consisting of German members and indirectly call them Nazis because they aren't willing to speak English on THEIR board but rather in THEIR native language? I'm surprised to see you guys have no shame at all in saying that you support your own kind (Germans) more then the other nations of the world. Where does this remind me of? I, for a fact know that, in Germany, almost all imported movies are synchronised in German and that it's nearly impossible to go to the theater to watch a movie in their original spoken language. I now see where this elitist behavior is coming from. They have repeatedly stated that their English isn't very good, that's why they communicate in their mothers tongue and you call them "elitist" ? You gotta wonder who's discriminating who here.
Spellbinder Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Im not suprised really. In all my time here on earth the germans (and actually the french) have been the same. If you go to germany or french you hardly get by if you talk english. Sure there are some few, that understand that rest of the world, xept for some french and german colonies in africa, talks english when they are out travelling. In Sweden we have to learn english, its of importens to be able to communicate with the rest of the world. We can choose French or German aswell later on in school, But thats much later on. You could almost walk into a kindergarden here in sweden and make you undertoud with english. When all this is said i also understand them somewhat. I haven't been browsing the site but as i understand it from one of the posts they have both english and german sections. I am in a communtiy called Warzone, their whole site is mainly in Swedish and some that are importent like bans and stuff are in both languages (swedish/english) and ppl mostly write in swedish, unless there is someone that starts a thread in english, then we respect that and reply/answer in english. For last, i agree with seir: Just fuck that and be happy that you can communicate with us If they want to be dicks about it just gthoot! If they want to spread their mod to like 0.3 % of the worlds population let them. To bad if it is a good mod but hey theres more importent stuff in the world to waste gun powder on.
⌐■_■ Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 Friechamp, Get your English straight. I'm referring to the fact that in Germany most movies are synchronated. Chill the fuck out, I'm not being a racist here but I'm not going to defend myself in this respect either. Also: that was a rather cheap swing you took at me there, mate.. Also, read the whole thing before you regeardlessly stick up for your fellow Germans. I respectfully asked why they only spoke German. I did not yet know almost all Germans don't speak English. Next thing I know is theire saying they don't care about the English speaking part of the internet. Having said that, I think that's pretty blunt to say to someone who's just trying to be of help.. After that, they only reply in German. FYI: I was posting in the almost died-out English section. So now they're provoking me by talking German in my English thread? Not that I'm really upset about it, but I can say I'm fairly annoyed!
Gorion Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 well killer tomota, as a dutchie you should know what happens in the summer holiday they speak german everywhere, so why not on the internet.. dumb arses i say! (btw, i can read german, as most dutch people should be, but i don't understand anything if their speaking to me..) edit: crap, i just actually red the reaction.. it doesn't make any sense, why the hell should that guy bring in the "violent-gaming political" crap..
⌐■_■ Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 well killer tomota, as a dutchie you should know what happens in the summer holiday they speak german everywhere, so why not on the internet.. dumb arses i say! (btw, i can read german, as most dutch people should be, but i don't understand anything if their speaking to me..) Lol, it's always a laugh to take back the beaches and fire of some singparades!! Jolly good times I say! Spellbinder: Yeah I guess you're right. Your view makes my evening good again.
e-freak Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Hey killertomato, i am member of the evilmod team and internally everything is in english it is just that the community is 90% german speaking... i have to say i would love to see you join the team even if this little idiots missed to give you a warm welcome. internaly the mod is more than stuck imho and it would help alot if you would join imho.
⌐■_■ Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 Check your PM mate. Also; every German I have had the honor of meeting with where very kindhearted (and I mean EVERY German). This was like having a bucket of cold water thrown in my face. But ohh well.. I guess spellbinder sets the right tone for me as far is this concerns..
aevirex Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Germans do speak German, thus have never learned English. Therefore they have to be dumb... and elitists... and nazis. This is so utterly dumb -.- What do you expect from a german (".de") tld? Regarding movies, roughly 100 million people speak german, why the hell shouldn't the movies be synchronated? There are indeed germans, austrians and swiss (luxemburg... hell I don't know how you call them in English... and many others ) who cannot or barely understand English (ie elderly people and young children (as they start learning English in the 5th grade afaik, at least in Austria)). For my own part, i prefer watching movies in English because i get what the director intended the audience to see (german synchronizations may be one of the best but not as good as the original). Sorry for so much emphasis, I'm not even German myself (and usually I don't see a reason in defending anything that happens in Germany), but I find this just really, really dumb.
FrieChamp Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Also, read the whole thing before you regeardlessly stick up for your fellow Germans. I respectfully asked why they only spoke German. I did not yet know almost all Germans don't speak English. Next thing I know is theire saying they don't care about the English speaking part of the internet. Having said that, I think that's pretty blunt to say to someone who's just trying to be of help.. I read the whole thing and I wouldn't think any differently if I or they weren't German. But hey - I even agree that it isn't very smart to reduce your userbase by speaking German on your board and this way exclude many future supporters right from the start. However instead of shrugging it off, you go on this whole tirade about them excluding you because "you are not German". They aren't putting their nation above anyone else - they are just talking German, do you speak English to fellow dutchmen? I think speaking your native language is a more common thing to do than speaking a foreign one, at least in most big countries. Anyway, it could very well be that this is something you were not aware of and I mistook your statements, therefore I apologize, but I still think your reaction on that board was uncalled for. They were speaking their language (and judging from that thread they surely don't speak German because they think they are better or want to exclude anyone) and didn't roll out the red carpet when you offered your help, but that's not a reason to get so angry about it. You asked for opinions on this thread- I gave you mine
mjens Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Ok so it's time for a litte story When I was on GC 2006 nobody from a paking or security spoke english. Thats weird becose that kind of "show" allways attract foreigners... I was happy when I heared english in booking office... In my country everyone is trying to learn most of a popular lanugages. We have english from elementary school and sometimes kindergarten and german at high school + additional languages to choose. I guess that that kind of "learning system" is popular in most of the countries... but why not in Germany?
BaRRaKID Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Its a world known fact that frensh and german people (at least) don't speak other languages. There was even a rather funny episode on the mtv show "The Diary of Sean Paul" where he was in france trying to have lunch and no one in the restaurant could understand him. I also live in a place where turism is the main industry, so i'm used to be with people from different countries, and from my experience it is indeed true that german and frensh people are hard to comunicate with. But i don't think that this is due to any sort of nationalist attitude, i think is more due to the languages being very different and its hard for the average german guy to learn english without proper education.
mjens Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 its hard for the average german guy to learn english without proper education. So tell me why they don't learn english from kindergarten (when kids can learn languages fast) to change this fact in future? It's in mentality...
