Wesley Tack Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Finished my second map for Off Limits, this design was made in collaboration with Forrest Dowling, who initially started this map over a year ago. It's been through a lot of changes but the core gameplay has been the same since it was constructed by Forrest. I picked up this map to finish it and get it ready for the Off Limits RC1 release. Here are some shots of it: More shots can be found on my website: http://www.wesleytack.com Made for http://www.off-limits.be Hope you like it, and a happy newyear to all ! May it be better than 2006! - Wesley Quote
atrocity Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 VEry nice work, the whole area looks pretty convincing. Somethings I would look into is turning on a couple of those street lights and give them a nice soft orange glow to compliment the blue overtones you got goin. Then I would work on placing more detail in the streets. Overall the map looks excellent, and is posted in the Finished work, but this is something I might have pushed at. Keep up the great work man. dux Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 I totally dig this. Awesome job my man! Quote
FMPONE Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 This mod consistently blows my mind, brilliant work. One thing to watch out for would be the lighting, while you have a huge beautiful canvas you seem to making fairly boring use of it. Throw in some more colors Quote
skdr Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 One of the best looking Source maps so far. Awesome work man! Quote
mabufo Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Brilliant, I really like the building architecture. Quote
Wesley Tack Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 Thanks for all the great comments everyone, crits are still welcome. No map is ever really finished as I'm sure you all will agree Somethings I would look into is turning on a couple of those street lights and give them a nice soft orange glow to compliment the blue overtones you got goin. Then I would work on placing more detail in the streets. Overall the map looks excellent, and is posted in the Finished work, but this is something I might have pushed at. Thanks for reminding me, I was planning this but it totally slipped my mind (the traffic lights). Here is a model I made just now to replace the Valve one and an ingame shot: About the empty street comment, Off Limits has drivable vehicles, so I left them relatively empty so people wouldn't bump into objects all the time. Also for such a large open area having too many prop cars in the scene will be bad for performance (especially Valve cars, which tend to be a lot of poly's). Here is a video of the map (before it was optimized, you'll see my computer lag at one point ). Now the map runs fine. I recorded with my photocamera, cause running fraps would have ruined my race http://users.pandora.be/simon.wt/OffLimits_Lap_One.avi I'll recompile it again sometime this week with the new traffic lights and other crits that would emerge. Thanks! - Wesley Quote

RD Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Plz make it daylight map Night maps get depressive, frustrating & boring Quote
TeddyBear Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 You did it again, son! Seriously, I've think you've done a great job creating a believable scene. Spotlight! Quote
dux Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Very impressive, *ps is this for a HL2 mod? Yes. http://www.off-limits.be Quote
Steppenwolf Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 The map looks very impressive. The only crit that i have are the sharp 90 degree edges around street corners. I would make them round like in this pic: Quote
Zeta Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Oh and one note of contention - your interiors let the rest of the level down. Quote
