Nysuatro Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Game developers always try to make there game more beautiful. But i as thinking, what about face expressions. It would bring more emotion in the game and i think it would be more beautiful to play. More realistisc. I thought about this because i have bought Rainbow six Vegas. And there was almost no expression in there face. Just staring eyes. What do you all think about it? Quote
Warby Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 lots of studios try to get better facial expressions in their games ?! haven't you played hl2 or resident evil 4 if they succeed or not or if they head into the right direction or not is of course up to you to judge i for one think that it is more important right now to have the characters STOP waiving around with their arms while talking rather than START moving the face more Quote
Nysuatro Posted December 18, 2006 Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 hmm, yeah maybe you are right. I thought what i have seen from hl2 was the best i have seen of face expressions. But i really mis some kinda emotion. Like in a movie, i love a movie who 'touched' me if you understand me. Maybe it is better to say that game developers have to watch out for more work in body language. It would make the game 10 times better Quote
e-freak Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Play Episode 1 of HL2 - i thing it patches every lack of emotion hl2 kept. Quote
Cybbe Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Dreamfall and Oblivion do a pretty good job too. The eyes in Unreal 2 really freaked me out. They were sort of realistic.. But they had this dead stare in them. Cold, dead, motionless stare D: Quote
Erratic Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Dreamfall and Oblivion do a pretty good job too. I found Oblivion had some pretty lifeless characters. The animations killed a lot of the immersion in that game. Quote
Fletch Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 It has a lot to do with what engine you're on and what platform you're running it on. While we tend to think of next-gen as this land of unlimited CPU and GPU resources, it's not. Facial expressions are still a costly thing to do, especially when you factor in dynamic expression, LOD, bone structure, etc. Quote
Skjalg Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I'm certain that if you had a team of programmers working on it, you could make something thats not so costly, and still looks great. It'll be here in 2007 Quote
Patrick_H Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Yeah, there were a number of highly stylized games that I played on the PS2 that had really nice facial expressions. Beyond Good and Evil was one of them, and some of the Free Radical stuff like the characters in Second Sight also had great expressions. Oh and Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube had a lot of nice facial expressions- and it was originally developed for the N64! HL2 is still the best modern game when it comes to facial expressions though. Quote
