Playing Wii on the Dell 24 inch

I know multiple Mapcorians have the Dell 24 inch monitor (2405 or 2407), so if any of you have a Wii can you report how well it plays with the Wii? I hear there's a difference between composite and component and that the latter generally looks better, but it all comes down to the specific monitors at the end of the day.

Wii doesn't come out here until the 8th so no way for me to know right now. If it won't work then it's to the CRT standard definition TV downstairs I guess. Would be nice to know if I can play it in the comfort of my room though.

Same question goes for the 360 and PS3 I guess as I'll probably end up getting both of them before I get a new monitor.

Sounds like you're a bit confused on the whole composite/component thing.

Composite gives a pretty horrible picture, RGB scart is quite decent but only component gives you progressive scan. With LCD TVs, they really don't handle an interlaced signal too well so anything less than component is going to look mediocre.

I had component cables for my 360 on my 24" for a few months, they gave a pretty nice picture quality. Then they appeared to crap out and give me overtones of yellow, whereas jiggling the cables was the only solution there to fix it. Later on, the cables just stopped transmitting a signal. I changed to VGA a while back (third party), and the visual quality here was great, but again I got the yellow color problem. I got tired of fidgeting with cables and went out to buy Microsoft VGA cables, and problem solved. :) I'd be willing to say VGA looks better than component connections on the 360 in terms of colors and sharpness. If you get VGA cables, just be sure to change your video options on your 360 to VGA and set the resolution.

As for component cables for the Wii on the 24", there's a pretty big difference. You won't notice too much from a simple game like Wii Sports, but the difference on Zelda is huge. No more swimmy visuals and a much clearer picture. Monitors seem to reveal a lot more problems with picture than a tv, and the component cables help out a lot.
