the Carpenter Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 As per usual ... 1 year later ... I release it ! SATAN CITY Quote
Dodger Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Looks like an honourable map for TS Mod. Quote
hessi Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 it's so... half-life 1. i dont know what to say. it doesnt blast me away. if it was 2002 now i'd suck on your balls, but sadly it is nearly 2007. it looks okay, but i dislike night themes in hl1. lighting is so poor which is mostly a result of the compilers and engine itsself. I have too say that you could have improved it more than this. working with addive textures to fake soft lights or making some windows glowing to simulate indoor lighting would have been awesome. overall its a good map, that can compete with other old hl1 maps. KoKo5oVaR Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 I especially like the look of your interiors, nice choice of colors and lighting, the rooms size seems to be big enough to do all the specialists crazy moves, however i kinda dislike your exteriors, it's really.. bland. I know it's halflife1, but maybe you should have made smaller outside parts to save ressources and have a less boring geometry. And hessi, what's your problem with old game engines ? i assume you'r still working on the old Source engine Quote
the Carpenter Posted November 30, 2006 Author Report Posted November 30, 2006 This is more than likely the last map I'll ever make. I've been sitting on it for months, without changing anything, so I released it. There are like ...10 lit windows visible in the screenies. Have another look, see ? There are even prostitutes dancing in the red windows. Anyways ... not here to defend anything needlessly. Those who will DL ... will. p.s. How can the creator of "de_night" dislike night maps ?!? D3ads Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I think it's very good! Other than the lack of detail in some of the indoor areas, the only other thing that lets it down is the textures, but I know that you're no texture artist and that you've worked hard to make those yourself so for that you should be saluted. You've got my download sometime, if only to look around and comment some more Quote
Rick_D Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 if it was 2002 now i'd suck on your balls, but sadly it is nearly 2007. Quote
SnipaMasta Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 And hessi, what's your problem with old game engines ? i assume you'r still working on the old Source engine I think it looks quite good, obviously Hl1 ish, but still good. Quote
sk3tch Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 This is more than likely the last map I'll ever make. ....Noooo....Don't do that! Map looks great! Quote
⌐■_■ Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 This is more than likely the last map I'll ever make. ....Noooo....Don't do that! Map looks great! yeah why man? i hope not because of our comments... I really like the style. the lightning indoors is pretty awesome and i also dig the over all style, you really kept the map in one piece that way! ive been following the progress in the wip forum and i must say the result is very good! i know the map wont change anymore, but still one point of crit: the detail out and indoors dont really seem to be in balance. anyhow, very good work man! Minos Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 I think it looks pretty good. Could look twice as good with a decent skybox though. Quote
the Carpenter Posted December 4, 2006 Author Report Posted December 4, 2006 Nobody likes a quitter, I know, but ... I've only dabbled slightly in HL2 mapping. It requires another chunk of learning curve that I'm just not interested in. Mapping has eaten up a good 7000+ hours of my life already. I have a metal band on the go, a 3 storey house to renovate/maintain & (strangely enough) a life to live. I just don't have the ambition to map anymore. What do you do, right ? For now, at least ... I'm retired ! W00X !!! Quote
Zacker Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Don't you leave us The Carpenter! Btw. is it not soon time for another batch of music from you and your band? Quote
