Rick_D Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 I wasn't that impressed tbh /heretic Quote
ReNo Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 How long did you play it for Rick? I was left kinda thinking "good, but nothing special" until the first half hour or hour, but the more I played the more impressive it became. What begins as pretty much out and out shooting becomes more tactical and teamwork oriented, and the put in some really nice combat areas that allow different approaches, particularly when playing with a friend in coop. Dux; huge screen or no, the split screen feels very limiting. I was playing on my 32" HDTV, but its not the size thats the issue, its the aspect ratio. Splitting a widescreen TV so you've got the full screen width but only half the height feels very restrictive. It was the right choice I think - it matters a whole lot more in this game that you can see whats around you rather than above or below - but it still doesn't feel natural. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Seems like the perfect game for a huge plasma screen TV then. Hmmm! LCD! Plasma sucks for games Quote
von*ferret Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 I'm playing it for the 2nd time. I've onlyplayed coop because lets face it, coop is more fun. I think the design is excellent. KFS and i were talking about it and things really are placed with thought behind it, not just aesthetics. I'm very very pleased with this game. Only thing I need to do more though is play MP with more people. I played one on one and it was enjoyable, but nothing like a team oriented xbox live match. Lunaran commented on how shiny the specular was, but I think it matches with the style. It really pulls off as a nice graphical look. HIZAH Quote
Mazy Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Completed it yesterday. Played about half of the game in co-op, did the other half on my own. There were seriously bits where I just had to take 10 minute breaks and go around and look at stuff. So gorgeous. Started playing it on Insane yesterday, not as hard as I imagined actually. Played some MP too, although I got really owned a lot in the beginning. It's fairly hard since people play extremely aggressively, and you cant really depend on outsmarting guys with tactics when they're storming into your face with shotguns blazing :G Quote
ReNo Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Multiplayer absolutely kicks ass. Sadly I was on a server where we seemed to be having real problems with the mics - nobody acknowledged they could hear me, yet I could hear other people saying "Hello, can you hear me?" quite a few times, so god knows what was going on there. Despite the lack of communication though it was great fun. It's great to see one of these games actually retain the hugging cover feature in multiplayer since the ubi games tend to remove it. Quote

It's a known bug, happens to everyone sadly. Join a game after it's begun and no-one will be able to hear you. And the lack of Halo 2's party system to this and there lies the (small) problem with multiplayer. Of course, co-op and versus in this are absolutely phenomenal, so it's easy to overlook minor bugs and missed chances. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 I'm stuck at RAAM, and I'm playing alone on hardcore D: Quote
Izuno Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 PLays great on a plasma...plays great on an LCD (graphics wise anyway...) We have a 42" LCD...not latest tech but still looks amazing. One of my friends plays it in his office on split screen co-op a lot and loves...and he's only playing on a 30" LCD computer monitor. Quote
Mazy Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 I'm stuck at RAAM, and I'm playing alone on hardcore D: ::SLIGHT SPOILER:: Its really weird, lots of people I've talked with had lots of problems with RAAM even in co-op, I took him down in my second go alone, on hardcore (Dont wanna sound cocky, but thats what happend). I just dodges around him to get to the chain gun, then I just waited for the kryll to get the fuck off him and then I unloaded on him and got him just before I died. Strange thing is that I didn't get the achievement for taking RAAM down, so I went back and killed him with the conventional weapons, which was a lot harder than the chain gun Anyway, thats the easy way Quote
ginsengavenger Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 hm, yeah I just gotta hammer on it some more :/ I tried a few times getting to the chaingun but i keep dying out of nowhere, not sure whether I'm being shot by him, the chopper things or getting hit by kryll. Anyway haven't been able to play for a couple days :/ Quote

Lame bugged out Crawl, either or, wish we could have fought that big gunner beast. Quote
