JackalSummer Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Hi folks, first off: im not that experienced with the source engine, and its all right to call me a noob well, im working on a mod and want to make the animations to the player. i have done bone animation myself for movie projects in 3DSmax, so the animations is not a big deal. So i thought, why not use the animation SMD's inside the "...username\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\modelsrc\animation" folder, import them into max, reanimate them (but still keep the same frames) export them back into the folder, (without changing the name) then use the existing QC file to compile all the files to the .mdl file named "cs_player_shared", inside the GFC file "Counter-Strike source shared". When that was done i tried to start the game and load some bots, and some of them actually had the new animation. the rest was just sliding in "reference-position" over the floor, and after 20 seconds of game time the game crashed with an error. So since that is not a possible way to make these animation, how do you then make new animations for the player? sorry for the long thread and please be kind to me since im only working with this for 2 weeks now. (i have searched through the Valve developers site and there was nothing about player animation) greets - Jackalsummer
Mojo Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 i've not done any animating but know we have a bunch of people around here that might know what you did wrong, hopefully they can be of assistance. and welcome to the Core
von*ferret Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 whats the error read? It sounds like they're trying to reference animations and can't find them, so they're playing the reference pose. Maybe double check to make sure you're exporting the animation sequences correctly. Double check to make sure everything in your .qc is linked correctly. The crashing might be occuring because of the engine being fed up with not being able to find the animation it needs. I'm speculating here, but its worth a try. good luck and welcome to the core.
JackalSummer Posted October 11, 2006 Author Report Posted October 11, 2006 thank you for the warm welcome:) well the error is like any application that crashes this "you want to send a report"-thingie. but well i took the runN.smd (runcycle for running forward), edited it, and replaced it. so i didn't had to edit the qc. and the most weird thing about all this is that some of the models worked correctly, and some just slided in reference position.. so now you know why im a bit confused about all this because it doesn't make much sence that it worked for Some of the models, and not for the rest. because the walk and run animations are the same for all models in CS:S. i've tried to check everything again and it didn't work for all models again... so there has to be something i've missed well i hope some of you got an answer for this problem
Nysuatro Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Nobody can help ? It would be a huge help.
JackalSummer Posted October 14, 2006 Author Report Posted October 14, 2006 Indeed it would, i've posted in 5 hl2-modding based forums and no one knew how to make these animations without the crash or the "error". and no site has feedback to the animations? seems like we have to contact valve and aske them.. but i doubt that we get an answer.
hessi Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 jackal: the problem is: the sample content is not as up to date as the content they actually use. what you would have to do is: 1. get gcf scape 2. rip off the animation mdl for you character 3. decompile it with canonfodders decompiler 4. import the smd to max or maya 5. redo all steps you did now
Nysuatro Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 There is not much info about animations in the source engine. Does somebody knows a website where there is ?
