Duff-e Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 i realized how badly i need a laptop. when suggesting one think "school" laptop. im mostly gonna use it for wifi around my house and at some local hotspots. key features im looking for: 1. light - under 5 lbs, slim and solid body. (no shitty plastic shit) 2. great battery life - at LEAST 5 hours while doing things like going on the internet, typing papers, stuff like that 3. cheap - under $1000 is almost the only requirement im not willing to flex on. 4. built in wi-fi...centrino is preference - mobility is key for me 5. perty - i love the ibook....so im thinking that kind of style, though it could be something completely different, you all have decent taste, so suprise me. 6. im not going to be using this to play music or anything like that (this is why i have an ipod) so high quality sound isnt on the top of my list either. 7. a large hard drive would be nice...but isnt neccesary...the same goes for memory, around 512 mb if possible. what i dont need: 1. TO GAME, i dont care if it has onboard video...i dont need some 18 lbs alienware laptop...i have a desktop computer for a reason ;\ also any really nice laptop backpacks would be cool too. it would be nice if it looked just as snazzy as the laptop im going to buy. im not really that big on laptops so i dont know where to start looking since i only know the high end ones (voodoo, alienware, that other really expensive company forgot the name). OL Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 falcon northwest has nice laptops that go from low range to uber google the name Quote
Izuno Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 shockingly, IBM makes some great value laptops (assuming you don't need to game) that are quite powerful, under $1600 and very reliable. i have had my 700 mhz IBM thinkpad for over 4 years now and it is still great for email and word/excel. but if you want to go cheaper/more powerful but no "major" brand name, try ibuypower, falcon northwest as suggested....look in the back of PC Gamer magazine for a lot of ads that can give you an idea of fair pricing in the market.
