All you have to do is read what google brings back and you get the idea. Read some of the links for further insight. I don't think it's that big a deal, but it is kind of funny. Wonder how the Zune will sell in Quebec. Anyone in Montreal area have a comment?

Its not really a big deal (especially since the word it sounds is used for young children), like "wii" it just sounds like something in a language other than the one most used by the designers.

I live in Montreal and "zune", whether you pronounce it the english way or the french way, does not sound like the slang word (a very silly and old slang word that nobody uses anymore).

It'd need to be "zoon" to even start sounding like it when pronounced in french.

1) Zune just sounded stupid to me from the beginning...then again so did Wii at first but I'm planning on pre-ordering one anyway...

2) I really don't care about the suppoded translation which seems off anyway. Just a funny story.

3) I am not convinved of the value proposition for Zune yet. Never count Microsoft out, afterall they havenn't bombed out of video game industry, but -

4) - Zune has no killer app the way the Xbox did with Halo. I suppose the file sharing from Zune to Zune could be it, but I don't think Apple is done innovating yet...

File sharing from Zune to Zune sounds really rather limited though - 3 day/3 play limited samplers of songs? I don't think it stands any chance of being a true iPod rival either - iPod is too established now. That said, I think it looks like a lovely bit of kit and, depending on how good it turns out being, I'm very much a potential customer. I just don't think that for the mainstream market it will ever be much more than a credible alternative, much like the Creative range.
