Hourences Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Good stuff indeed. I hope the site stays active, ill place a link to it on my new in progress level links page. Quote
FrieChamp Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Very cool, this what the Mapcore news system should have been! Quote
redhood Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Zaphod - The what is devbump/FAQ could use a little tweaking. It's sorta overwhelming at the moment with so much to read. And so much that casual surfers won't really want to bother with. I think the most crucial information, selling the idea of devbump, should be the priority and the terms and conditions and license be linked individually at the end of the article or perhaps in a help section. You could also follow other pages examples and edit the information making it direct and accessible from the frontpage. I've always liked that form. That way I don't have to snoop around a page to find out what it's all about. I know immediately when I enter. I know Digg uses the learn more which is maybe why you chose to design it that way, but you don't want to be an exact replica do you? Here are some examples of popular pages with a direct about on the frontpage just so you know what I mean. Odeo - Over one million audio files—from podcasts and all over the web. Listen, download, subscribe... Reddit - reddit is a source for what's new and popular online. reddit learns what you like as you vote on existing links or submit your own! Flickr - The best way to store, search, sort and share your photos. There are plenty more examples but those are just the ones that came to mind. And I think you get the idea. If you don't go for the headliner approach then separating some of the about content would be beneficial. Right now, I think, it makes the page look like a bore. I know everything is still undergoing development so I'm sure there will be a lot improved and changed over time. Anyhow everything looks fantastic! I'll definitely be making it a daily stop. Can't wait to see how it takes off and how it evolves. Quote
Defrag Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Looks like a potentially great & useful resource, good job! Quote
DelaZ Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Nice, only thing you should do is add just the title of the 10/5 most bumped topics on top. Like here: http://pspupdates.qj.net/ Quote
zaphod Posted September 8, 2006 Author Report Posted September 8, 2006 thanks for the suggestions redhood! All that stuff does still need to be tweaked, everyone's input helps a lot. once I do get all these things tweaked and polished with everyone here's help, then I will start going around to different communities and news sites to promote it and get lots of users. Hopefully that will be sometime next week! Quote
Zacker Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Looks like a great idea and site Zaph! I really do think that you should take amount of votes into account when calculating position on the frontpage. Quote
insta Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Signed up and favorited. Good idea zaphod. Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 i added the rss feed to my google homepage, though its not as neat as the digg one, you can see the source for theirs here: http://digg.com/goog/ig.xml it shows you the number of diggs in the same type of box you'd see on the digg page this is what they both look like side by side there should be a button to subtract a bump too, maybe say "kick" or "slap" or something Quote
zaphod Posted September 8, 2006 Author Report Posted September 8, 2006 do you guys have any suggestions for communities I can go to to pitch the site? I can think of a few off the top of my head, but I want to have a large list of places to pimp this thing next week. Quote

dissonance Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 mapcore + digg = fucking brilliant. bookmarked, signed up, etc. Quote
redhood Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 A couple more... http://www.gamedev.net/ http://forums.cgsociety.org/ Don't limit yourself to just game dev sites, maybe try to shoot an email to Techcrunch or look into pushing it on Squidoo, Delicious, Magnolia and other similar sites. Thrik Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Yep, definitely give some of the bigger 'Web 2.0' sites like TechCrunch a buzz. This puts a fairly unique twist on the whole Digg clone concept, so they might want to give it a go. Quote
