insta Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Here's a Doom3 map I've been working on lately. It's mainly for 1vs1, but I'm sure it will play just nice with 4 players as well. Quote
insta Posted August 31, 2006 Author Report Posted August 31, 2006 On second thought I should maybe have posted this in the WIP thread Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 neat, it could use some angles and stuff, everything seems boxy with the exception of pipes/tubes and such. what it needs the most is some color in the lighting, all of it is white Quote
FrieChamp Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Looks like a pretty good start! I would comment on essentially what Bic already said, some trims along the bottom and top of walls would help to make the hallways look less boxy and a more interesting lighting would help too. Quote
Ducky Paterson Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Its looking pretty sweet for a wip can't wait to see it with some nice ambient lighting Quote
Mazy Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Pretty good insta, but as mentioned the lighting is pretty bland. Even though you're using D3 textures then actually doesn't look that D3'ish, kudos~ Quote
Dodger Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 not good as ken20banks halflife1 levels but this is still amazing. Quote
Belgarion Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 i'm not sure that's a fair comparison, regardless of engine. this looks very very good though. i think Doom3 maps are among my favorite. it's just the look of them.. maybe the textures and smooth lighting. i dunno. i just like them, and this one looks like it's going toward the top 5 or 10 percent. KungFuSquirrel Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I think your geometry is in pretty good, shape, actually. The lighting is the biggest hurdle yet to come, methinks, especially comparing this with your q4 map you showed - both show very competent shapes that could be greatly improved just with some more interesting lighting. Some ideas that instantly come to mind are some bright cool lights filling up the vertical areas and casting shadows down from those pipes with warmer smaller accent lights providing the lighting around the rims. only comment I'll offer geometry-wise: it looks like that angled curve in between the downward staircases ends in a corner; I'd keep the (I assume) 45 but nudge it upward a few units so you've got at least 8-16 flat around the bend at the top... some thickness looks like it would help.
