Alexjfry3 Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Me and a friend have found the First Person Shooter Creator and we were wondering if for noobs is this a god program. any help is welcome!
DelaZ Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 lol just looked it up on google... http://www.fpscreator.com/ Looks like something for "noobs" on first sight.
Alexjfry3 Posted August 29, 2006 Author Report Posted August 29, 2006 its drag and drop but some of the graphics that come with it look very nice. But i was wondering if there is anyone here who has experience with this program.
ShaDoW Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I wouldn't rely on those programs too much. You can slightly change the environments, characters and weapons for each "game" you make with it, but it will always end up being the same bland game. If you want the real experience find yourself a nice free open source game engine and build on that, or mod an existing game.
Alexjfry3 Posted August 29, 2006 Author Report Posted August 29, 2006 so what would you suggest for 2 starters in this aspect? i would really appreciated any kind of help and links would be el Mucho loved. i have been told half life is a good one but i have no clue as to how to start doing that, again any help would be appreciated alot!!!
hessi Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 start hl2 modding? http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page this will be you most visited website then.
Polaris Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I'd suggest Quake and opensource variations, if you want people to not have to own a game to play yours. Though HL2 modding isn't a bad idea it just seems you want to build your own simple game from the ground up. I don' know to much about this sort of stuff but there's darkplaces http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DarkPlaces Perhaps Sindwiller can shed some light on this?
MAD Mike Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I've messed around with FPS Creator before and it's terrible. You're better off modding a real game
Alexjfry3 Posted August 30, 2006 Author Report Posted August 30, 2006 ok well so is Half Life 2 modeling hard or is it like it takes time to learn thing?
Spellbinder Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 If its time you dont want to spend you should quit right now. Everything you want to learn and learn well will take time. There's no cutting corners in life.
Alexjfry3 Posted August 30, 2006 Author Report Posted August 30, 2006 Thanks spellbinder, yeah i was just wondering if i should invest in some more keyboards if im going to get very mad becuase im not seeing results right away. and by your response i should haha.
wacko Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 you know just to comment on this, programs like this are just utter crap and they do no teach you anything that could be useful later on. I would suggest modding or small game creation using something like DirectX. Now of course this would seem like a huge undertaking, but DirectX is really a nice framework at making small titles really easy to do. It will also allow you to learn some other languages outside typical c++. Which is something that maybe useful in the long run. I would agree with SpellBinder, its going to take a good amount of time. A lot of late nights, asking yourself why does this shit work and then come to find out you spelt something wrong. ITS GOING TO HAPPEN.
