Erratic Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 New Super Mario Bros. Mario gameplay never gets old. And it looks so awesome. Also, this thread should be sticky'd. Quote
Bl1tz Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 Doom 3 I bought it when it came out, played it half way through, got sick of it and stopped playing it. My internet was down yesterday and I was looking through what games I had installed and said "eh why not finish it up" Then I remembered exactly "eh why not" Doom 3 has the most unfair fights of any FPS ever. 9 out of 10 fights it spawns at least 1 enemy behind you without any indication it's done so. The prime example being that you'll be engaging a somewhat tough enemy in front of you while strafing backwards or sideways and run right into the unfairly spawned guy behind you, resulting in an assrape sandwhich that you can't get out of. It's the definition of frustrating gameplay. It's a shame the battles are so lame because it excels in almost every other respect. Even the snippets of story you get from the PDAs and what not are pretty well done -- it's a very polished game. Just a damn shame about the combat encounters. Quote

It's definitely one of the best parts of the game. Just being able to wander around while you're listening to one of the characters PDA entries and taking in all the atmospherics is great. Quote
mabufo Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 Baldur's Gate 2... I, quite literally, rolled a shape shifter druid this time around. Quote
-HP- Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 Doom3 (For the second time) DeusEx (for the... dunno, 4rd time or something) I'm a nostalgic! Quote

D3ads Posted August 13, 2007 Author Report Posted August 13, 2007 System Shock 2 owns Doom 3 when it comes to atmospheric PDA's... NP: Tomb Raider - Anniversary Spent most of yesterday pissing about in Lara's Manor, finished it but I still can't get that final artifact where you have to jump backwards onto the slopes with the grapple.. far far too hard Quote

Just finished it too now actually and I gotta say I really agree with what you are saying. Really irritating... I lost count on all times I tried to back into cover and the doorway was blocked by some enemy spawned behind me. But yeah the story I found nice and as you said if you take the time to read all the extra in the PDA's and on some computer screens it really adds to it. Another big plus is some of the areas which were extremly good looking. Especially most of the clean labs. Some of the lower grungier parts were quite ugly tho. Looks very polished and believable. Great attention to details in every little bit and I love all the curvyness. If it wasn't for the repetitive fights and very irritating spawning it could have been a truely awesome game. But I still found it really quite enjoyable. Quote
Sentura Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 battlefield 2142... eagerly anticipating: warhammer online guild wars: eye of the north black box? orange box? whatever the hell color box it is. Quote
Taylor Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Doom 3’s problem is it tried to go down two different routes: realistic, atmospheric, horror (lol jump scare), while also including bits of the older games where you didn’t question why there were 5 Imps enclosed in some wall panel and proceed to circle strafe the shit out of them. Anyway, I'm still playing the Mountain of Faith demo on loop, and still failing hard on anything higher than Normal difficulty. But to be fair it does go fairly batshit insane. I’m trying to think of a way to word this in a persuasive manner but just download it and ignore the animu title screen. You'll enjoy it. Playing Guilty Gear XX again with Jam instead of May. Quote
D3ads Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 Quake 4 picked up where Doom 3 failed.. Played the first three levels of TR:A, it's ok but some of the jumps can get rediculously hard for a n00b like me (well I played the original game when it came out back in 1996 and the second one.. that's about it though and not for any great length). I wonder if they'll remake all the Tomb Raider's? I'd die if they redid The Last Revelation.. ancient Egypt FTW! Quote
