FrieChamp Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Oh shit...my condolences to everyone who is without a job now. What a mess, it feels like it was just last week that Grin announced all these new studios and projects and now the company's bust. I guess a lot of people are looking for a new gig now, anyone feel like opening up our own studio?

Mazy Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Damn this sucks I'd love to say that you guys should apply to Io, but it seems like we're booked pretty solid when it comes to Level Designers at the moment D: square as in squareenix ? yep Care to elaborate on that? I'd hate to think that Io's parent company caused all of this D: Best of lucks dudes, hopefully some new exciting company will spring out of this.
PhilipK Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Thx for the support people! It's been a rough couple of days for sure. As Dux said I'll hopefully join UW for real soon if things work out the way I hope. I'm sure any help here is very appreciated by everyone from Grin here!
Zacker Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 To all former GRIN employees, I am very sorry to hear that! GRIN had picked up so many talents from the modding community so it is indeed very sad to see it go. I must say that I believe their overly rapid expansion over the past few years has paid into the fact that they ran out of liquidity. Opening a new studio in another country is quite an expensive and exhausting thing to do, and they did that an a lot. I hope and belive that many of you will soon find a job again. Don't get too dismissed by what Mazy said about IO, I recommend applying anyway. I am not entirely up-to-date anymore on what's going on in there, but it still is a great company and they have to my knowledge lost more level designers than they have gained over the past year.' In other news if anyone cares, I am now also external lecturer at the IT University of Copenhagen. I will be in charge of the Engine Programming course for their master degree, which I believe is going to be very challenging as I am not that experienced as a programmer.
Steppenwolf Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 The Barcelona studio initialy only run under the name Grin. Kinda like a franchise restaurant. But they bought it earlier this year i think. I'm not even sure that the underperforming games were the real reason for the trouble. In the end Grin was only a service provider and the games were paid for. But what definitely hurt the company was that they lost 3 big projects within a short time, projects the size of Bionic Commando or even bigger. In the end if this was due to the economy or publishers losing trust in the companys abilities after they saw the sales numbers i dont know.
