Work on one of the highest rated games in years - get laid off.

 

That's some shitty news guys. One month ago 2K announced that the game passed the 4 Mil. sales mark, so that wasn't the problem either. These periodic layoffs are really uncool. If it wasn't for your splendid resumes I'd be really upset, but there is little doubt that a different studio is going to pick you up very soon! Hang in there!

I don't understand the layoffs either, they seemed completely arbitrary? Either way, good luck finding new gigs. Though, echoing others in this thread, it probably won't be a problem for any of you =)

Not sure about other countries but it makes financial sense for the companies to only hire for short periods in BC Canada so they don't incur long term costs of retaining an employee (benefits etc). In fact a lot of employees here are technically consultants. 

 

It's like the film industry only we dont have a decent game union that ensures if work is temporary the pay is high enough to survive through the dry seasons.
