Spinlock Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Depth of Field and Motion Blur can't be done in Source at realtime Tell that to the Valve software engineers. Quote
Warby Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 woah thats awsome love the style the trailer is bitchin too banjo smiley digs the new style aswell he told me Quote
skdr Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Depth of Field and Motion Blur can't be done in Source at realtime, the previous DoDS video that had them had it and iirc it rendered at 1 frame every 1-5 seconds. So it just lost a bit of its prettyness, the style looks excellent I'll admit however. I don't know how it will look with multiples of these very heavily stylised characters running around, they look great by themselves but with 8 of them onscreen I think it will loose the wow. Your negativity/pessimism in forum posts amazes me everytime. Valve reps. said that all the animations (including facial animations) are used in real INGAME, except Spy's animation which is still "under construction". Everything you see in that trailer is INGAME excluding the post-processing filters like dof and motion blur. Valve is actually working on these too so they can bring it to current gen gpu's and processors. I don't understand how you can say it's scripted? Btw, when has Valve actually made a trailer/teaser for a big scale game that shows the "real gameplay" from first person view? Valve is doing cinematic trailers and they're doing pretty damn good work on them too. Can't complain. Quote

Er, not to be a party pooper but remember the HL2 teasers which featured the combine kickin' in the door wavin' the 44 and the strider ducking under the arch? Both were claimed to be realtime and unscripted, but it was later proved to be false. I'm not saying anything in this video is scripted, but I don't see how you can definitely claim there's no possibility of it. Quote
KoKo5oVaR Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Anyway, as a medic, when you'll do a conc jump above the top ramp to the flagroom, will you care to see the facial animations of the sollys ? I don't even look at them goddamit §!!§ Quote

It's marketing. Get over it. Quote

I never said it wasn't ingame, I said I didn't like the scripting in it. Some animations are 1-offs just for the teaser. But its all in-game, with some post effects just like the dod movie. Yeah I'm on TF right now. I did the heavy (though at the last minute some animation wasn't added and they just faked it with some mouse movement) Theres the scripting point. Yeah, either way its a trailer and all is good, I just wish people put stuff in trailers that is actually going to be in the end product. You very very very rarely see a trailer for a film that contains footage that you don't see in the film (I can't remember ever seeing it, but I know there will be a few that do) Quote

Thrik Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 I wonder how concing will work now. It'd be an interesting evolution if they actually made you a bit more physical, so if you go flying into a wall you don't just slide down it like in TFC — instead you SLAM into it and then fall to the ground in a big ragdolly heap of death. Obviously it'd have to be tuned so it doesn't kill you every time. Perhaps if you hit it gently enough the medic/scout could attempt a bit of Spiderman and stick out his legs so he hits the wall by the feet and then slides down a la TFC. Quote
Polaris Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Its definately scripted using the engine but with the Source after effects. But I dont see what the problem with that is, or why there is even a bit of an argument going on about it. It's pretty cool nevertheless. edit: People are saying that this is cgi, "what Valve does best". I find that funny since Valve is one the few developers that doesn't use cgi for either cutscenes or promotion. Quote
Quakis Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Hah the teaser is great. I love the style! Can't wait to get my hands on Episode Two now. Quote
user Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 BTW, the teaser is available through the Steam media section. It's the exact same video that was first found on valvesoftware.com, with no watermark that you'll probably see if you download the video from any fileplanet type site. Quote
