Polaris Posted July 13, 2006 Author Report Posted July 13, 2006 Not managed to find too much information, or any reviews of the game yet. Of course not, its an indie game. It will be awhile before we see much in the way of reviews etc. Its seems Steam is becoming a home to indie-games. Not a bad thing imo. Quote
Fletch Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I get the feeling we're all going to be standing around for a while looking at each other going "did you buy it yet?" because nobody wants to plop down $15 until we see some reviews. Quote
ReNo Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 There are a couple of reviews out, but none by the major sites as of yet. One was by a beta tester (obviously they are the people who have already spent a fair bit of time with the game) and the other...well I'm not sure who did that to be honest! http://www.pcfastlane.com/joomla/content/view/109/47/ http://www.themadgamer.com/portal.php?topic_id=4237 Other sites such as The Firing Squad and 1up have done previews for those of you who want some more info. Hopefully more reviews will pop up now the steam release has been made so you know what to expect Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I bought it. I'm liking it so far. If you find a good 8 person server, the game really shines. However, if there are a couple idiots who complain about not knowing what to do, then obviously it doesn't work as well. Here are my 2 cents: - The maps are really boxy. Reno, you better fix this! It reminds me of something in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Those designers made a point to get rid of virtually every straight edge, which I think would work better for the Ship maps as well. - In a game where it's absolutely necessary to memorize maps, the maps are difficult to learn. There are some very convoluted layouts (probably on purpose, so you can avoid your hunter and such, but it's still difficult to learn) and since most of the game takes place in hallways, there's not many landmarks to help you navigate. The compass KIND of helps, but not that much. Some kind of toggle-able automap would be better. - I really like the music though. Maybe it's just me. - The bots are smarter than I expected. Sometimes they seem really human in their mannerisms - sometimes they're dumb as nails. Quote
redhood Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 There is a toggle-able ship map that shows you the floor plan and your location. It also highlights the area your quarry was last seen. Quote

FrieChamp Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 There is a toggle-able ship map that shows you the floor plan and your location. It also highlights the area your quarry was last seen. Yup, without that map it would only be half the fun. I find it kinda annoying that I need to press "I" and then switch to the map though, is there no hotkey which immediately brings up the map? Quote
ReNo Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Sure there is - defaults to "p" I think but personally I rebound everything like that (needs, MFK table, etc...) to the buttons surrounding WASD. You need to look at options screens more often Frie Glad you are enjoying the game CJ, and I'll see what I can do Oh and by the way, apparently The Ship is reviewed in the new episode of Consolevania, that wierd Scottish games review show. I haven't watched it yet so dunno if I should be linking it or not - hope they liked it as they can be pretty brutal with reviews at times! http://www.consolevania.com/downloads.htm Quote

Best moment so far was when I killed a victim with a pan when he was eating in the manhatten restaurant. Very satisfying! Quote

Defrag Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Oh and their recommendation was, "buy it", so well done ReNo et al! Quote
ReNo Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Hehe Polaris, most people can't Thanks for the congratulations Defrag, we were pretty happy with the review. In fact all the reviews so far have been positive, which has made us happy indeed! Will be interesting to see what the more established games media thinks about it as all our reviews so far have been from smaller places. Should be reviews in next months PC Gamer and PC Zone to coincide with the retail release, so we're looking forward to those. Oh and Consolevania fans rejoice - videoGaiden, their tiny little mainstream TV games show here in Scotland, is coming back for a second series. First series was just six 5 minute shows around midnight, but this series is six half-hour shows, and filmed in a studio! Madness. Hope such an "upgrade" doesn't ruin the style of the show, but its good to hear that the BBC are taking it a bit more seriously this time around. Quote
Defrag Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Did you used to watch Vidz, ReNo? It was very much the same as Consolevania (a couple of lunatics chatting nonsense while reviewing stuff, but videos instead of games and with a raving lunatic welshman) back in the day Quote
ReNo Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 I know the name but I can't remember the show Shame, sounds like my cup of tea! Quote
