Pericolos0 Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I just bought myself a black DS lite with Mario Kart and Metriod prime hunters and am completely in love with this thing. What other mapcore people got it? I'd love to play some games against you guys. The metroid multiplay mode is really fun. Also has anyone here tried homebrew apps on the DS? I saw a video of someone playing sam&max on the ds with some homebrew version of scummvm (OH GOD I WANT THIS). It would be cool if there was someone here that could lead me to the right direction because it's confusing the hell out of me and i'm afraid i'll end up buying the wrong stuff... Quote
Thrik Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Yar, got one yesterday, and Mazy's just got one too and is in love with it. I've only got Mario Kart so far as New Mario Bros isn't out until the 30th here, but my god, it's absolutely excellent. I mean, we've all played the SNES, N64 and GC Mario Karts, right? Well, imagine all of those, blend the elements of each into one brand new game and you've pretty much got Mario Kart DS: 1. Jumping from the SNES 2. Boo weapon from the SNES 3. Triple shells rotate around you like the N64 4. Four cups of brand new maps, maybe more as I'm not close to finishing it 5. Four cups of maps brought back from the previous Mario Karts and, in the case of the SNES ones, revamped 6. New karts for each character as well as SNES/N64-esque coloured generic ones 7. Online fucking play 8. Like twelve 'worlds' of missions, which are great for burning time and each have their own boss brought back from older games like Mario 64 I must sound like a corporate machine but this game really is a work of art. I've always loved Mario Kart, and having this game literally take the best parts from each is just amazing. I hope New Mario Bros that I'll be getting next week has the same loving care applied to it. Then I'll be getting that Ace Attorney thing, which is meant to be pretty damn good — especially if you like adventure games. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted June 26, 2006 Author Report Posted June 26, 2006 Yeah ace attorney is pretty awesome as i've heard, but doesn't have much replay value apparently so i'm not going to spend my money on that yet. The mario kart graphics realy baffled me. I really did not expect it was going to look this good. It even has anti aliasing and shit. Thrik let's play!!!! Quote
Tequila Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 You all need to get Pheonix Wright. What other game lets you shout 'OBJECTION!' into the DS' microphone, complete with massive text and thudding noises? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Funny that you mention Sam & Max. Played it at work today on my Gp2x Quote

Polaris Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I'm sorry I love Mario Kart but classic PC games > mario kart/touch screen And then you have to consider the fact that the Gp2x can emulate the original Mario Kart anyway Throw in a way to play Advance Wars and i'm sold Quote

Thrik Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I agree. This really is an amazing Mario Kart, and the only one I've played thus far that can truly stand up against the original and be all ":D". Possibly because it brings back a stuff they weirdly removed after the SNES version, and possibly because a whole bunch of the SNES maps have returned, but still! VERY GOO~! Quote
JAL Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 I got my DS Lite yesterday and I'm looving it. The design is fabulous, reminds me of ipod. So far I only bought "Mario & Luigi Partners in Time" and "Yoshi's Touch and Go!". Mario & Luigi Partners in Time is freaking sweet so far. Kind of like a mix of Mario & Final Fantasy? Also I ordered Advance Wars: Dual Strike. Today I'm prolly going to buy the Wi-Fi adapter. Btw. Anyone heard the rumor about Apple buying/merging with Nintendo? It's probably bs though. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 welcome to the DS party guys Pick up New Super Mario as soon as you can, it's really, really spanking good. recommended games: New Super Mario Bros - i can't put this one down right now Mario Kart of course TETRIS - 10 man multi ffs, I'll take you all down Brain Age (seriously, a game that makes you want to be smart) Big Brain Academy Advance Wars: Dual Strike Bust-A-Move - slingshot control makes this the best version yet Metroid Prime Hunters - a really decent FPS, remarkably Kirby Canvas Curse - a platformer controlled completely with the stylus, excellent use of the tech Tony Hawk there's plenty more, these are just the best of what i own so far.
