ReNo Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 Breakdown on the Xbox, now THERE was a game focused on FPS melee combat Lots of moves and a nicely handled first person viewpoint at all times (including the first ever first person spewing and bungee jumping scenes unless I'm mistaken!) Pity it was a bit crap overall, but it certainly had its moments, and given it was pretty much the first of the wave of FPS melee games it deserves recognition. Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 It works really well in Oblivion too. When you hit someone, it feels really, uh... "visceral" - plus, there's still plenty of strategy involved with movement and timing your attacks. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this, especially since the developers are big fans of Thief and System Shock. Quote
nico Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 you got to bungee jump in goldeneye on the n64 machine, after completing the first mission =) "wohoo! down the dam!" Quote
JamesL Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I built some of the maps for the online multiplayer part of this title while working as a level designer at Kuju. It was a great fun title to work on and although the game suffers a little from the same 1st person melee combat problems seen in every title in this genre since the beginning of time, I think it handles them better than most have done. I can only speak for the multiplayer aspect though, as I had nothing to do with the single player. Quote
ReNo Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Very true nico, forgot about that one! Breakdown's is rather cooler though - as I remember it (might not be accurate!) you get blown off a roof by an explosion caused by a helicopter shooting missiles at you, and as you fall, your female companion dives off the roof with a cord attached and grabs you. Breakdown had some seriously awesome moments to it, but the sad truth was that the bulk of the gameplay was kinda poor. Still, underrated and underappreciated game - just one of many cool Xbox exclusives that people completely overlook when they say the console only has PC ports or cross platform titles. Quote
