hessi Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 thanks for your effort vivi. great to see that more than just a few people spending time on community work i got trick you didnt discover yet: selecting a colorrange while the background isnt in a complete different color as the foreground we want to crop, is not as efficient as it could be. so i do like this: 1. i do select a colorrange that is not that strong that it selects parts of my "grafitti". the problem you already noticed: background might not be selected completly 2. well continue anyway and create a new alpha channel and fill your color range selection with white (alt + backspace) 3. then go to image -> adjust -> brightness and contrast 4. adjust the contrast that grey parts disapear and the shape of your decal gets clean out i hope you understood what i was trying to tell you. greets hessi Quote

PhilipK Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 Very cool Vivi. I thought about perhaps I should create a sticky in which I will post all tutorials that are made for texture creation or other 2D. Could start off by adding this one in it anyway Quote
General Vivi Posted May 28, 2006 Author Report Posted May 28, 2006 philip i think you should make some tutorials . you are pretty much one of the perfect candidates that could do that. I would love to see a video on how you go about doing things ^_^ or maybe explaining a certain aspect of texturing or how you make your normal maps and stuff (dont you do that in 3ds max?) . Since my iwm site has started to gear more towards modeling then mapping we have been putting up lots of tutorials like this and will cont. to do so. So anyhelp that you guys wanna contribute would be fine. Hessi has already made 3 tutorials which i will be adding ^_^ -vivi Quote
PhilipK Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 Ah heh thx. I've been thinking about making an "avarage joe" howto make a texture with quite proper diffuse, normal and specular. I wouldn't go into 3d normal mapping then but making a fake one with IE the nVidia filter or better the ATI tool. However there are a lot of tricks you can use to get your "normal maps" a lot better with that filter too. Just need to get started on it Btw. This is the first tutorial in the sticky Quote
