Mazy Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Did anybody check out the E3 tech demo of this thing? Even though there's not really any game in this then it's a quite impressively done even if the lipsyncing might be a tad off . Also it’s from the guys that did Indigo Prophecy, so hopefully they'll make a game that doesn’t go all stupid and supernatural on you again http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=2717 Quote
JAL Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 the visuals are nice and the animation is realistic. The lipsync and voice acting are quite horrible until the very end. Quote
sensee Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 The face of that girl looked very weird and unnatural. It almost creeped me out. Maybe it has something to do with the Uncanny Valley: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_Valley I don't see why people make such a big deal over Heavy Rain. The characters in HL2 looked more sophisticated, had better facial animations and way better lip synch. And HL2 is almost 2 years old. Also you could clearly see that the kitchen later in the movie is only a flat texture. I'm quite sure you could run that demo on a mid-class PC or even an XBox1. I really admire Quatic Dreams for their work ever since Nomad Soul, but that Demo didn't impress me at all. Quote
Phatsniper Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Yeah I saw this yesterday, I really liked it. At first I thought the voice acting was flakey but by the end I realised it was really well done, it's nice to see someone making real people. I actually just kinda sat here for a minute after the video ended, the woman's story and emotion really got to me. This doesn't even happen in films that often so yeah I'm impressed. Really looking forward to more news on the game. Quote
Gaz Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Visually its damn nice. Though it does appear that the sounds off, which is probably why it looks odd, she looked too far ahead of the actual speach. Very cool though, made me tense, I thought something was going to jump out or something. Quote
Furyo Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 I really dug the kitchen set, with the French textures and magazine. the number of polys makes it nice Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Maybe it has something to do with the Uncanny Valley: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_Valley I don't really think it's there yet; it's got just enough of a sort of painted/gamey style that it looked fine - the mouth is just terribly done. Like horrifically. Our lipsync stuff in Q4 matched up and I think even deformed better than that, and it wasn't so good. I paused one frame where she stopped talking - it looked amazing. As soon as the mouth opened, eesh. I have no interest in it coming from indigo prophecy, though - I wanted to throw that game -oh, sorry, "interactive movie" away in the middle of the tutorial because the damned "director" (YOU'RE NOT SID MEIER!) kept telling me it looked like I needed a little more practice and should try again, despite doing exactly what I was told over and over and over again. And for all the annoying effort they go to to not call it a game, it's all simon-says minigames. Get over yourselves! Yay ranting. Demo and presentation on that was cool, though, I'll give them that much Quote
Section_Ei8ht Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 I like the setting. My only complaint is pretty much what everyone else said. The emotions and lip-sync just werent there. Her mouth reminded me of the mummy too often. I'll definitly keep tabs on this one, though. Quote
-Stratesiz- Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 The facial expressions are terrible, especially the eyes and the mouth. The eyes are one of the key elements in creating realistic expressions. Here they are just stale and dead, just plain awful compared to HL2. Quote
GrayFox Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 The only thing that bothered me was the mouth. Quote
