Ub3r Sold4t Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Hey guys, I was playing around in Hammer making a CSS map and all of a sudden when i loaded the game to test it out it would make all the props a solid color. take a look: Any ideas on whats wrong? I tryed loading another map and it looks like this too. I;ve also played CSS to see if it would look the same and it didnt. If i turn HDR on it kinda looks right, like all the props are ok but the gun looks all fucked up.. any ideas?
Ub3r Sold4t Posted May 20, 2006 Author Report Posted May 20, 2006 there are no cubemaps in it yet. ill try putting some in but i dont think thats it
Ub3r Sold4t Posted May 20, 2006 Author Report Posted May 20, 2006 wow, it worked. thanks! do you know why / how it worked? and if possibly could you explaine how exactly to use them, i kinda knew way back when CSS was new and I never really fully understood them. I just need to know like how many and how far apart and stuff. thanks
Bic-B@ll Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 as far as i know, cube maps are used for reflective information, either for a world surface (apply to face id) or for models. place cubemaps around your world at eye level at major points, when your run your map type buildcubemaps in your console. this will build a cube of pictures of the area that are used for reflections. take a look at the example de_cbbl and dm_jailmapthing to get an idea of spacing, i'm not really sure myself. feel free to correct me other people
Zacker Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Materials with specular shaders rely on the cubemaps to provide them with data about what to reflect.
