Polaris Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I just opened up steam and noticed I have HLD:S in the "not installed list", even though I did not preorder Episode 1. I guess this means Valve is providing it free to those who already own HL:S afterall. Quote
alexroyce Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Its worse than HL1DM, though. Big disappointment Quote
Grinwhrl Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I don't have it either. You may be one of Valves lucky screw ups Quote
Polaris Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 I dont have it :s Do you have Half-Life Source? I don't have it either. You may be one of Valves lucky screw ups Quote

Grinwhrl Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 nope, probably why then. I re-read your post at the top, thought it said HL2, but says HL:S . Quote
Zyn Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Had a run through HLDM:Source, and the maps are simple conversions with small touches here and there. The towers in Crossfire now have modelled canons\turrets but they are bugged to oblivion: grab one, quickly look to another direction and let go. Et voilá, spinning unusable turret. The secret room works as intended though. Bounce remains the same, just using displacement-maps everywhere, but unlike me in my remake, Valve havn't taken care of typical "squash & stretch" ugliness on some displacement surface textures (due to vertices not being equally spread from each other). Every map is a conversion with some new details in some places (like the new rope swinging platform with *gasp* crates in Stalkyard, just a detail). This makes me wanna remake every map to show them how it's done Plus I hope some modeller or Valve themself could up the viewmodels to par with the HL2 quality. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 I love it, valve really needs to patch it up here and there though. But the essence is we can now put all kinds of cool source engine stuff in hl1dm. I already started mapping! Quote
Polaris Posted May 19, 2006 Author Report Posted May 19, 2006 Oh we'll get patches eventually. Unfortunately Valve only has 70 employees and they are working on many things at once. They should really hire more! Quote
user Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Minus the bugs (cough crossfire), I think it's near perfect. It's supposed to be hldm on the source engine, not a "what some guy thinks the maps should have looked like" source remake. Look at http://www.blackmesasource.com/flash/images/mr7_am1.jpg It barely looks like the original, so it is not half-life 1. it is some guy's opinion on what they want it to be. another one: http://www.blackmesasource.com/flash/im ... bound2.jpg where was that in hl1? oh wait, it wasn't.
