DD- Posted October 14, 2003 Author Report Posted October 14, 2003 Thanks for the links chips, but those only apply to businesses. We aren't trying to wrong this guy, we're trying to stop from being screwed. If this guy pulls out like he claims he can, then 8-9 months are down the drain. That's bs, just because this person can't get along with others. Like the entire team. So far from what I read his work belongs to the mod. It's basically work for hire, but freelance. If anyone knows anything about international copyright laws, non-profit for hire internation copyright laws, please talk! Quote
Fletch Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 He owns his own work because he never signed a contract with you. When you think of businesses owning the work of their employees, that is because a lot of companies that deal with development put that clause in their contract. So under any court system, you wouldn't go anywhere with this (both stateside and in Europe). He created it and was nice enough to share it, but that is the extent of that. I know that is really unfair, but that's life and that is how mods go. Your best action is to try to smooth things over with him and try to get his work or permission to use it. It's your only real avenue to explore (other than stealing his shit and telling him to fuck off) Quote
CrazyMAC Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 thus looseing credit if u steal STEALING IS WRONG KIDS Quote

Bic-B@ll Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Besides the fact that its never coming out, Hostile Intent (LOL EVERYONE CRACK THE NEVER BEING RELEASED JOKE~) got its name stolen. About a month ago, someone made a thread in the forums saying there is another game with the same name. They copyrighted the name that (the real) Hostile Intent has been using for a few years. On top of that, they claimed that they did research for the name (Yeah, bull shit). So Ikusagwai, one of the team members calls Gamespy and talks to their CEO and stuff, but apparently, the other game gets to keep the name. So effectively, they stole the name. Is that not bull shit? So now we are being forced to change the name of the mod. You can read some more on the main page here: http://www.planethalflife.com/hostileintent Quote
CrazyMAC Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 so....the guy that is taking his models with him is from hostile intenet? that wud explain the desperation.... Quote
DD- Posted October 15, 2003 Author Report Posted October 15, 2003 I remember reading the moment you publish a webpage, all materials and titles become copyright material of the publisher(s). Quote
Fletch Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 no, you have to state that you are copyrighting your material (with a copyright warning) assuming it isn't violating somebody else's copyright. You also have to defend your copyright against other people's usage. You still "own" it, but copyright is a different issue than ownership. Quote
chips Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 And from a purely "if it happened to me" way of looking at it, dont use his stuff without his permission. If I had just broken up with a mod and didnt want my work being used, I would be very pissed off if they did. Quote
DD- Posted October 15, 2003 Author Report Posted October 15, 2003 Maybe so, but this person quit because some of his messages were deleted like "suck my hairy cock." And other immature statements which simply weren't tolerated. Being a totally asshole and attempting to screw a team over by forcing all his work to be removed, about 8 months of work, really isn't justified. We'll probably find some legal way to get it or just use it anyway. If we use it anyway and it ends up we can't use his material it will take a large amount of money to fund a international case, and he can't state his case till this mod is released, and even then it might take an extra 6 months to a year to finalize. By then we won't even care. On another note, if art is slightly modified it's completely legal to use right? Quote
