Izuno Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Wheeee!!! I mean Wii!!!!! http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=12535 Discuss. Quote
Mazy Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Donno if I'm too keen on the name, but I guess I'll get used to it. But as for meaning and stuff its apparently good and stuff Quote
spacer Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 What the hell is going on with that name? Quote
Section_Ei8ht Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 was just about to post this Revolution sounded cooler. Dont know what the hell to make of Wii. Sounds too fruity and uncool. But as mazy said, I'll get used to it. Quote
Gaz Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Wee is english slang/child talk for urine. Wii is pronouced the same, So its not that great a name sound wise. Its a cool logo though, and I understand why they went for it. But revolution was slightly better imo, but its still cool. I'm just not looking forward to the chavs about making inuendos like "My 360 takes a dump on your Wii" or something equally as lame. None the less, Its still the console that I actually WANT to buy this generation round. Quote
Izuno Posted April 27, 2006 Author Report Posted April 27, 2006 Xbox360's code name was Xenon. "Xenon" > "Xbox360", but obviously they wanted to keep "Xbox" in the name and not simply call it "Xbox2" because Sony uses the idea of PS1, PS2, PS3, etc... The other thing about "360" is that Microsoft wanted a more "mass market" console that was "softer" (i.e. more appealing to non hardcore gamers as the Xbox rep was that it was a core gamer platform). So Xbox360 has more egglike and rounded or soft edges on the actual machine, in the logos, in the operating system, in the Microsoft advertising, in the accessories... But it still has "Xbox" in the name so that immediately reminds of us of its "hardcore" roots. So jam them together for "Xbox360" and you have a mass market console that still appeals to the hardcore. "Xbox360, hardcore for the grognards, yet accessible to the masses." Now...someone explain "Wii". Quote
Tequila Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Terrible, terrible name. Irrelevant to me purchasing it or not though. Quote
Ginger Lord Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Odd choice, then again I didn't like GameCube when it was announced. Quote
sensee Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I like the idea behind the name and the logo looks cool. The main problem is like Gaz said, that it sounds too much like wee. That's going to cause a lot of immature jokes... cOuNtEr-$Tr1kE1994: "LoL RoFL wii soundz like WEE" g4ngst4_50c3nt: "nintendo suxxx!!!!!!!!111111 L0L" Quote
ReNo Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I really liked Revolution, I really don't like Wii. But I'll still be taking a Wii over a PS3 Quote
Hourences Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Sounded real strange to me too on first sight but the more I read it the better it gets. Its kinda cool and all this controverse over their name makes people talk about it Quote
General Vivi Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 it will be funny to hear people talking about it in regular conversations. Janet " Hey i got a wii today." John " Yeah i heard that the wii came out a bit ago. How does the wii play?" Janet " I dont know yet but you wanna come over and play on my wii with me?" John " Yeah that sounds like fun, my wii broke the other day so playing with someone elses wii would ease my mind a bit ." -vivi Quote
Pericolos0 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 people will just be saying "the nintendo" like the old days i hope Quote
alexroyce Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Horrible name.. Is it "Wee" or "Why"? Quote
sensee Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 it's gonna sound funny when those kids get the wii... Quote
