dux Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Wish the new expansion for DoW would get here already, starting to actually get bored of WA! Quote
ReNo Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Picked up Mace Griffin uber cheap for the Xbox, simply because I seemed to recall hearing it was pretty good. Can't say it's quite reached the lofty heights of "pretty good" as of yet, but I've played worse games. My thoughts... - Aiming seems a little odd to me, with vertical looking being quite speedy but horizontal looking starting slow and accelerating. Not in a nice "easy to make slight aiming adjustments" way either. - The space combat sections are fairly awkward with the default control scheme, which you can't change in-game - really, in this day and age, what the hell? - Your character seems a bit...crap. Granted, I'm not far in, but he just comes across as generic and unlikable. - Fairly lame weapons - Horrible AI, and I mean horrible. You know what? There isn't much to like about this game. Oh, it uses the Halo recharging armour system, which I do enjoy. I'm not too sure I can cite that as a positive point... Quote
Taylor Swift Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I play now to many games.. First I enjoyed battlefield2 and now I'm playing the new Project Reality mod for it.. And I'm playing around with AudaCity program (music program) doing my own mixes.. Wicht is very difficult.. Quote
Section_Ei8ht Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 picked up Command & Conquer First Decade the other day. Getting on that old nostalgia trip. Still play Empire at War more than I play c&c, although every weekend me and some of the bms guys get a few games of Generals in. Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 trackmania at lunch at work, lots of wow on the weekends, and in between splatterings of geometry wars, cod2 360, Empire at War, and as of last night God of War, the damn coolest game I've ever played, even if I only had time for 45 minutes of it. If you don't have God of War yet, and you have a PS2, the new price point leaves no excuse to not have it. Quote

Yes I've heard it is an awsome collection with 12 games (+ expansions) but Red Alert is the classic one of them all and the funny thing is when you playing the game you see from time to time the mid-sequences with the b-actors and Einstein, Stalin and Tanya.. Red Alert was made by westwood studios but now I'm dissapoined why EA need to take all games over. Quote
Mazy Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Completed Prince of Persia on the PSP yesterday. Christ what a buggy game, looks great for a PSP game tho :G Anyway, I'm probably on WoW until next Friday where Ghost Recon 3 is out, that should be enough while I wait for the 24th where Oblivion will be out ~ Quote
ReNo Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Well I got the wrongly provided Extreme-G 3 replaced with what I had actually tried to buy - Extreme-G Racing Association (or XGRA) - and I'm fairly impressed. - Very fast game, but then the XG games always have been. - Looks better in some ways than the third game, and worse in others, but that might just be because this is a PS2 game and I have the GC version of 3. - Quite a nice weapons system, which has a primary weapon with limited ammo that recharges over time, and a secondary weapon which changes as you pick up powerups on track. Each time you pick up a powerup it goes further up the list of weapons - so if you pick up just one powerup and use it you get an energy draining device, pick up two before using it and you get mines, three and you get a speed boost, and so on. - Pretty cool track designs with a fair amount of route choices, though in places the meandering track can get a little too hard to navigate without using the sides. - The camera often has trouble showing you what you need to see. With sudden and extreme dips, rises and corners it can be down to luck whether you are aiming for the right line. - Hated the soundtrack in the third game, but this time around it seems a lot better. It gives you the choice of techno or rock soundtracks, or a mix of the two (which I went for), and the tracks in each genre seem to work very nicely with the theme. Quote
Tequila Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Shadow of the Colossus, which gives me a warm gaming feeling inside. Quote
Taylor Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 I'm really not looking forward to any game but Disgaea 2 right now, which is a bit disapointing. And nobody else has mentioned the series! I imagine most of us are PC FPS players though. Want to see some amazing graphics, utlizing the Playstation 2 to the max? http://ps2.ign.com/objects/773/773797.html Heh. (Edit: If you scroll down the actual artwork, you'll find it's really nice - the problem is the shitty resolution) On a sidenote they've made an anime about it now, because the games are funny, there's a lot of interesting characters (undead demonic penguins that speak in haxor, I fucking kid you not) and the setting is very cool. Needless to say you should NOT WATCH IT, because it's terrible. Quote
ReNo Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Well it's not too surprising that Disgaea hasn't had a mention, seeing as the thread is about what games we are currently playing, and it is an old game A good game for sure, but it's not one I've played in a fair while now. Cool about the sequel, though I'm kind of tiring of Nippon Ichi's formula. La Pucelle Tactics, Disgaea, Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom all seemed very very similar, with tweaks to the gameplay that undoubtedly made a difference, but perhaps not enough difference. I've only played Disgaea myself, but watched my flatmate play the others, and they had a bit too much in common for my liking. Quote
Taylor Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 True. Though I'm still playing it I just kind of wanted to mention Disgaea 2 and maybe create some interest in the series, but there's no other thread for it since it's not really the kind of thing most of us go for. I've been caught out :X And I agree they're all similar and it could get a bit stale after a while, but the inherent rules of any genre don’t really change too much. They’ve experimented with changing aspects before, and it doesn’t always go to well. For example: In Phantom Brave they tried to remove the grid and limit the amount of turns, and it really, really sucked. Because you skidded off the map all the goddamn time, positioning AoE attacks was a chore, and there was less strategy because your units were expendable. Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 I finally managed to get Shadow of the Colossus to not break on me last night and powered through the next 3 colossi... I'm only up to number 5, sadly, but I got sucked right back into this one. Got a little frustrated with the jump setup leading into #3, but that fight alone more than made up for it. I still see a bunch of weird glitches in it, though. In addition to the showstopper I kept running into (player/horse would freeze mid-stride, all other controls reacted normally but left a frozen motion blurred dude at the center of the screen - one time the horse broke free and left me floating there while running around in circles around me), I saw a bunch of spots where the world just didn't draw and I was getting triangle edges and all sorts of badness like that. The game is absolutely incredible, but it's a damn shame it wasn't done for a better piece of hardware. They stretched it, and it really shows Quote
