Skjalg Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 To Posty's defence, i have to say that even people that don't speak English as a first language know the difference between 'ppl' and 'people' and that cases like this were the biggest issue. The problem is that Obsessive Spellchecking is just one of the problems. And it also reminds me of my brother who uses this as a technique to throw people off (sorta similar to name calling). He has no arguments left so he starts attacking the person with other things, like grammar mistakes. If you're so upset about people writing "ppl" instead of, well, people; "If you don't like it go tug on the skirt of your mother or otherwise". It's time you guys realize that we're not just kids and that our points are valid.
The Postman Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 The problem is that Obsessive Spellchecking is just one of the problems. Like I said, I let people get away with a lot. Mostly I just get on people for the leet-speak garbage. Mistakes are one thing, heck, even common spelling errors are one thing, but blatant disregard for the English language is another. And it also reminds me of my brother who uses this as a technique to throw people off (sorta similar to name calling). He has no arguments left so he starts attacking the person with other things, like grammar mistakes. I'm sorry about the relationship with your brother. If you're so upset about people writing "ppl" instead of, well, people; "If you don't like it go tug on the skirt of your mother or otherwise". I'm a moderator, I don't have to It's time you guys realize that we're not just kids and that our points are valid. Then act like adults. Post well thought out arguments and have conversations instead of posting long strings of google image search "angry muslim" pics. We let you discuss pretty much anything here, even crazy posts about how supposedly intelligent people believe in haunted houses. You guys get a lot more leniency than I think you really believe you have. Still you said i was trolling around and posting random pics that have nothing to do with the discussion, just because you had a different opinion then me. I see things like this as personal insult because i have never experienced such a behaviour from a mod in all the years that im on the internet. In all honesty I'll argue whatever you want any time you want and heck we might even agree on some things, but I won't tolerate flame-bait poorly thought out crap. If you have a post with pictures, I'm not going to take you seriously. If you have a post with a linked website (the more unbiased the better) with facts, stats or articles I'm going to think over your point and consider you a better poster.
Skjalg Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 What's the point of this whole thread again? For discussion about the current state of the forums. Guess you missed the red outline I carefully placed in Fletch's thread to point out the irony in this. Okay, I'll humour the other persons on this forum then; This whole thing started when The Postman started deleting posts in a rather hot thread. The discussion was far from over, but as I see it, The Postman saw it as over because his arguments were flawed and everyone weren't seeing the world as he did (from my point of view). And he kinda reminded me of my big brother when he run out of arguments and subconsciousnessly (this is my theory) sees this himself. I deleted posts from a few people who were only posting large pictures that had little to do with the thread other than perhaps they showed angry Muslims. They weren't arguments or conversations. I said my opinion in that thread and only butted heads with people that weren't doing much more than fanning the flames or just posting huge pictures. If you think I was being bratty go read the thread again. :roll:Again, I can't stress the fact that your opinion in this matter was severly flawed due to the fact that you were engaged in the debate. Just because you think that a picture has no real argument doesn't make it so. I actually found many of those pictures very describing. More describing than a 1000 words. When that one guy posted using a huge avatar, The Postman could've just gone into his profile and erased the avatar. That approach would've spared him time, actually. Actually I can't do that. I'm only a moderator, not an admin. Next un-informed bitch-point please?Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot that you probably have no way of talking to an admin and asking him if he could do it. If there is anything offensive towards other users on the forum, just delete the words, not the post. If the whole post is something offensive, replace the info with "[user1] is out of arguments and lashes out against [user2] with personal attacks!" Deleting his posts would result in you bitching and a still-fucked-up forums. Come on, use your head. This is what I get for posting a serious soloution to a problem you guys seem to have. And I was actually talking about the other posts you deleted, "Come on, use your head", in my quote there you can clearly see that I'm talking about an incident where [user1] is calling names toward [user2]. Kinda like "Curman is gay" (sorry, but you obviously needed a clear example). You could replace that with "Skjalg is out of arguments and lashes out against Curman with personal attacks!". Got it now? I've always liked MapCore, and it's members, but The Postmans actions (and yours Fletch, since you are kind enough to share the blame, allthough I'm pretty sure The Postman acted alone and just got your confirmation later (which isnt the same thing)) pissed me off to no end because he messed up one of the first threads in the political forums that I (for once) had taken an interest in and was monitoring closely. Fletch and I talk about what to do in the forums before acting. If you're still angry, lo siento, it's not going to change.Yeah, I get it, you don't care. Again, what's the point of this thread? Political threads shouldnt be touched by moderators that are actively involved with the thread. You guys can take turns, whatever, or get a 3rd guy. Um, no. I go into damned near every thread and look at what's going on, especially if there's a lot of posting (oddly enough I've made changes, not posted what happened, and no one's noticed). That doesn't change if I'm posting in the thread or if Fletch is posting in the thread or if Mikezilla is posting in the thread. If anyone posts something dumb, flaming, or just plain off topic it'll get the chop. Yes, and you're effeciently avoiding my point. I'm talking about the fact that you probably wont sensur your own posts. Or sensur your own sensuring. The power you have as a moderator gives you the ability to shape the thread after your liking. You can alter anyones post, making it seem that you are the one that has all the valid points. (I'm not saying you did this here). But, what I am saying is that you can do it. Therefor it would be better that someone else, who has no real opinion on the topic of discussion mods the thread. If there is no person like that don't mod the thread at all. If the thread gets out of hand just send out PM's to everyone that don't follow the rules and give warnings. Tell them to edit their own posts (but don't threaten them into it) if necessary. Great that you made the thread btw, I've been thinking of making it alot lately. On a final note, i'd like to point out that the first thing you say is that you delete posts too, just like The Postman. How does that justify it? Because sometimes posts are off-topic, flaming, or just lots of pictures in a forums that's supposed to be about serious discussion? We make sure that it flows smoothly. Sorry to anyone for deleting your five 800x600+ collection of angry Muslims burning Israeli flags. :roll:yeah, great help, thanks. You're been too constructive, I get it. Im the child here.
Skjalg Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 It's time you guys realize that we're not just kids and that our points are valid. Then act like adults. We let you discuss pretty much anything here, even crazy posts about how supposedly intelligent people believe in haunted houses. You guys get a lot more leniency than I think you really believe you have. In your world, theres just you, the other mods and us, The kids. First of all, we're all different and you cant just think of us as one entity. Second of all; We've actually acted like adults in this whole thread, and (as I've been trying to hint at atleast twice before), you and fletch are the ones acting like immature childs with power gloating over the fact that you have it. edit; sorry for double post and that I didnt reply to all your answers, but I'ts way past bedtime now.
Fletch Posted February 8, 2006 Author Report Posted February 8, 2006 I'd love to play the quote-and-respond game, but quite frankly that is too much effort for the points I'd like to make. 1) It seems to me that nobody is actually mad about any of the forum rules. Well, maybe the spelling thing, but Posty has already been nice enough to say he'll stop doing to red and bold thing. It pissed everybody off. We get it. Problem solved. Stop dragging it up. We listened to your complaint and adjusted accordingly. End of discussion. 2) I have never deleted a post that I felt was a contribution to an active discussion, nor have I edited something to go against whatever point they were making. To my knowledge, neither did Posty. There is one exception, and that is the guy with the giant avatar that keeps getting bigger. Neither Posty or I can do anything about it. Mojo can get rid of it, but the guy has now made 3 changes to his sig making it bigger every time. He's not behaving nicely, so we deleted his posts. I apologize if anybody was pissed off by that, buy sometimes the only solution left is a shitty solution. 3) Please stop acting like this was something Posty and I decided to do because we were bored or something. At first, there was very little m oderation of the forum. Then it got out of control, so we pulled in the reins. Then everybody behaved well for 4 or 5 months, and we got lax on moderating because people were behaving. Then things started to get out of hand, and we're back pulling the reins in. Moral of the story, play nice and you'll never notice Posty and I are doing our job. It would really make everybdoy happier.
ginsengavenger Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 I think you guys are doing alright
Section_Ei8ht Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 I think you guys are doing alright
mawibse Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Personally I have been banned by MikeZilla, called more names by Fletch then I can count and been put on the leeper colony list by The Postman. And I say they are doing better then alright, keep it up guys, I love ya!
Skjalg Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 There's also the problem that you guys handled this really awful, that beeing said, you won't hear anything more from me. (except if you do something creepy again:P)
RD Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Only thing i disagree with is deleting some of the pictures. You guys would probably not have believed it if i told you muslims were walking around the streets in Europe threatening to behead westerners and carrying signs saying "we will do another 911 and bomb your subways". So i posted pictures of it.

Spellbinder Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Rofl you guys are unbelievable! Wtf are you debating this for? Rules are made up because a lot of people come toghether and when this happen some times they go overboard or just acts like stupid ducks in a row waiting to be shot down (sorry about that but i have a little trouble with the language so some times i dont know how to explain my self). Anyway the rules are there for you, so that you have a chance to contribute to the forum with your ideas and thoughts without being flamed or ridicueled (sp? i think you know what i mean even if it is spelled wrong, hopefully, or ill explain in a longer way) because of what you wrote, we all have different opinions and many of us need to learn to accept them, or maybe not accept the opinion but rather accept and respect the person with a different opinion. But in the end the rules are there and the moderaters are there to enforce them and thats it, just accept it. IF there are rules YOU don't like then maybe you should adress this in another post, make a poll or whatever and stop bitching about it in every other thread. And about the typing/spelling thing, im all the way with Postman, when you have been doing computers and stuff around it for a while you all of a sudden think you know everything and want to show it off by talking 1337, and it sucks! People don't communicate with 1337 language when they grown up. Hackers (and i'm NOT saying i am one) looks down on this 1337 language because if you can't spell and communicate so all the people understands you, you are probably on the same level as a frog (not a pun to you toad ). Being able to communicate and spell (which i am aware of i am not that good at but at least i try, and when i fail i try again) shows that you have matured and are able to think freely. IF and it happens i am sad to say but i am afterall only human, i do something to break the rules in a forum i beg of forgiveness and tell them i am sorry. Why? Because me being present on a forum isn't a right! It is a privilege! (sp? again). We are damn lucky to have first of one guy that provide us with space on the Internet to allow us communicate with each other swapping ideas and ask questions and getting help and just fuck around with each other some times hopefully in a fun non provoking manner. Also there are lot of other guys that for free gives up their time and effort to keep the forum as good as possible. I probably could keep on ranting but im not quite well and i have difficulty to find the right sentence so i just stop it right here. Xept one more thing. For god (muhammad, allah, yin&yang, buddha etc etc) stop bitching! Spellbinder.
