mawibse Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 The Source engine contains support for multiplayer gaming, and Valve plans to release several multiplayer games at the time HL2 is made available. This week we've announced Counter-Strike: Source. We will be more releasing information on the other games and how they will be made available to gamers in the coming weeks. Rick Valve So I guess there will be basic HL2 which has only DM&TDM but with a cupon to play, all other Source mp stuff made availible through Steam, for a limited time to tease you to buy or subscribe for other Steam Source mp stuff. (CS, TFC) A platinum version HL2 box will probobly allow you to play all "old" HL1 stuff ported to source and such through Steam. This is pure speculation but I think it's a possible scenario with Valve and Steam and such.. Quote

zaphod Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 It's nothing like what they were showing on the hl engine way back when, it's been started over again about 2 or 3 times since then. Quote
Taylor Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Lets take a fast-paced unrealistic game were you capture glowing flags, constantly respawn and throw yourself around a maze using grenades; and make it realistic! Surely a recipe for success! Quote
DD Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 I would have 5 years ago too. Quake had one of the best rendering, physics, entity/logic systems, and pretty good AI for its time. Building all that from scratch would have caused HL1 to be 2 or 3 years longer. Oh and HL2 isn't based off quake, but HL1, you could say its based off quake but very little is there, so really no.
