Izuno Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 man i love it that 24 is back!!!! I say he'll kill 121 people in these 24 hours.... that's around 5 per hour! Quote
Kosmo Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 I tried to watch the show, but my brain is flawed, it just can't accept a TV show that has so unrealistic pace, 5 minute flight from LA to somewhere in Mexico seems highly unrealistic. Quote
Mazy Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Saw the first 2 episodes of season 5 yesterday, was okay but they cant hide the fact that they're milking it absolutely dry. Quote

That's why it's called tv show. Why everything needs to be realistic? What kind of series you watch then if they need to be realistic? It's not about the show not being absolutely realistic and true, but it is just annoying when the show tries to be ultra realistic and then they have so big mistakes that it makes it look more unreal than Battlestar Galactica. It just jumps out when they try to make a hyper realistic TV show and the whole season is just mere 24 hours, it hurts my brain, nothing happens that fast. Like if you watch Andromeda or Stargate Atlantis, you never have that kind of problem, they openly admit that they are straigh cock and bull. But Mythbusters is a great show to watch if you want realism and excitement Quote
Izuno Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 eh...yeah I agree that 24 has some plot holes and for sure there are inconsistencies in how realistic it is. if you try nitpicking it you will find a lot. If you are a nitpicker, maybe it's not for you. I however, have been a fan since season 2 and I like it because it is so rediculous and fast paced. It's a total thrill ride and the best thing about it is Jack. In the heat of the moment, Jack knows what to do no matter what, even if that sometimes means he has to do crazy shit or do nothing but wait it out. He's an extreme character and I like how he operates. So it's not for everybody. Quote
Kosmo Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 I have had a distaste for pointless action and mindless killing for a while now, I prefer shows like MacGyver and Pretender, where the main character actually has a brain and a half and not always resorts to violence. I mean, if a guy in some show decides out of his whim to kill 100 guys and then smoke a sig and then on the second episode proceed to kill another 100 just because he thinks that the last episodes 100 was not enough, it's just bad entertainment, and where I have seen this before? Oh yeah, in every TV show lately. Where did they left the imaginative shows where writers actually picked their brains to come up with something more than "I think he shoots a guy with a bazooka, and then proceeds to shoot down a dozen helicopters with a flamethrower, just because it makes no sense." But ultimately, that IS what the majority of the TV watching vegetables want these days, a horrible idea of TV show making them think, or heaven forbid.. to learn something is just too much to comprehend. Point taken. I think 24 is a little better than just senseless violence. The presentation is pretty killer (I think anyway) and the twisting, innerwoven plot keeps people guessing what's going to happen next. Also, people like the characters like Chloe and of course Jack, but then you've got a questionable President. No one has done this kind of crazy 'real-time' drama before so I think it will stand the test of time. McGuyver...man I used to be hooked on that show when I was little. If you ever find yourself thinking "what would McGuyver do?" now you can also ask "What would Jack do?". Quote
Kosmo Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Well, actually there is one mainstream show I'm waiting to see first episodes (yeah we here in Finland are most part in the dark on what shows comes from your TV), Lost, many people are crazy about that show. And the concept seems neat and all, just to watch how a crazy story unravel, a story you know literally nothing about. But I would poop gold for a show like the good old Dr. Who, Prisoner or The Planet of the Apes. You just can't beat those, no explosion in sight, no mass murdering "heroes" (since when was killing somebody heroic?) and the adversaries/difficulties to overcome were something totally unusual. Other good shows were Space: 1999, Thunderbirds & Captain Scarlet, Quantum Leap, Six Million Dollar Man and many others. I know, that all of them are sci-fi or unorthodox, but the concepts are good. Also there has been few extremely good modern shows, like CSI, The Shield, The Wire, Kingpin (short, only 6 episodes), Band of Brothers, The Sopranos (1st season), OZ (the king of all), Stargate & SGA, Firefly, Babylon 5, seqQuest DSV and many others, but 24 never did it for me, it's just complete bull. Izuno Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 24 is now my 2nd favorite show, second only to Lost. Kosmo, based on everything you said, I think you will greatly enjoy Lost. Quote
Kosmo Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 I'm really looking forward to Lost, I have read some synopsis and seen some captions on TV.com. It starts here next week, but I think I should just download a bunch of episodes of it, and watch the whole first season in like a weekend, since if it is actually good, I just can't stop. Quote
hamst3r Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Jack is a total badass. And I really think its my favorite TV show Quote
Tequila Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Saw the first 2 episodes of season 5 yesterday, was okay but they cant hide the fact that they're milking it absolutely dry. You must have been watching a different show, cause this was the best series opener of ANY show I've seen in years. It's got plenty of juice left in the tank. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 never liked the old 24 but the new one is really really good Quote

Well, maybe saying that they've milking it dry is a bit off, I just didnt find it that exciting as the early seasons, even with all that stuff going on. Still going to give it another chance and watch some more of the new episodes. However I still think 24 is going to end up being a horrible series, since they're just gonna go on with the seasons until the viewer numbers go down Quote
