[HL²DM]dm_oldprison

Hey there, i´d like to present my first hl²dm map - called dm_oldprison. I made this map with 98% of custom textures, with many details and its playable with 10 Players.

This map plays in an oldprison ;) near a great city. it took many months to develop because i had much errors, problems with lights ect, but now its finished

the last shot looks like that place from silence of the lambs :cry :o:

Anyways it looks pretty good, almost to the point of awesome in some shots ;) All i miss is like a centerpiece that makes the map unique, cuz theres already so many prison maps for hl2, but this one has new textures at least

Lookin' lovely, I specially dig the 5th screenshot, you really put good detail into the buildings and not having such traditional "flat" ones. But, 98% custom? I don't see.. much of any, can you show some textures featured? Thanks :D

:D yeah i didn´t compile the textures in the bsp, you can see all textures in the materials/dm_oldprison folder ;)

and big thx for those nice comments :) I know there are many prison maps for hl² thats why i wanted to make my prison map as good as i can, specially the levelesign and with custom textures :)

First shot reminds me of a certain room in Resident Evil 4, in a good way (is there any OTHER way to be reminded of that game though?!). In general though, while the map certainly looks solid enough, it just doesn't jump out or appeal to me much due to being so generic in theme. The theme would have been fine for HL1 or most other engines, but in HL2 I'm just so well accustomed to prison levels that it looses some of its appeal. The fact you use custom textures is almost all but negated due to the similarity of the custom textures to the standard ones. I also think some of your brushwork could use a little more subtelty to it - the metal frame inside the arch in the last screenshot for example looks too bulky and "HL1" style for example.

All in all it looks like a good map, but I'd suggest going for a less cliched theme for the engine next time around. Prisons maps in HL2 are like warehouse/military camp maps in HL1 - very hard to make stand out from the crowd.
