2d-chris Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Im all for totaly custom levels, but in all honesty i think its to much work even if we have 5 or so levels using a set mapcore texture/model set. Im building a fun shotgun map (remake of an old cs map i made) i don't have enough spare time to work on a completely new cs_ or de_ level Either way, is the pack just limmited to cs_ de_? or can we not include very well made fun maps aswell? General Vivi Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 i will contribute my tmp_lodge map if that is ok wity you guys.. .. *idea* i can make the mapcore logo as a 3d model that way we can hide them in the maps we make what do you think? Quote
hamst3r Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 my cpl map is pretty much done, just gota fine tune / submit it for beta testing...the mapcore logo thingy sounds like a cool idea, and so does this entire mappack Quote
Phatsniper Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 That "Hitting the Wall" thread really reflected how I feel at the moment towards level design and a "competition" such as this might just be what I need to get a CS:S map out the door. Things are getting more complicated every day in the games industry and pulling together the broad community here is a fantastic idea. Whilst I enjoy level design the whole custom material and model assets kill the project before I start it, and I know many others feel the same way. I can't wait to see what's produced! Quote
st0lve Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Its an good idea, but give us some time.. Quote
RD Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 looks like we need some rulez about what kinda maps can be submitted. Quote
Schmung Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Might be nice to let people colaborate on this, to add an extra twist to things. Lots of people are saying they don't have time/motivation/resources so maybe it would be cool if we worked in teams of two/three. Could work with people saying a little about their preferences/how they work/stylistic ideas and then one central person, who is reasonably impartial putting them together in small teams. Would make a nice change from beavering away all by yourself and would hopefully result in everyone being refreshed by other peoples ideas. Of course, it might end up as a total clusterfuck and maybe it's best off as a seperate entity, but I thought I'd mention it and see what you lot thought. Quote
RD Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 well if you read the original post, it was already mentioned there Dont think teams will work, just if someone needs help he gets it. Quote

Refreshing of ideas can come from a cabal-like process within each level. Furthermore we are not keeping our projects "secret" so we can always get together and critique and throw ideas out over maps. We can especialy do that after the alpha release. I'm all for the idea, but lets face it. Level Designers and the people who create the art assetts are not balanced here. I'd say about a 6:1 ratio. Everyone will want to place props, but if we insist on custom assetts that'll be hard. Quote
Skjalg Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 What if we have a signup list, but on that list we also have to write down our qualifications like 4/10 in mapping 9/10 modeling etc. (could be more or less complicated). Then we would put people together in teams where the pros can teach the newbs and there will be talent spread out among the different fields so the map could be great. Quote
Skjalg Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 Ofcourse, theres mant flaws in this idea, but if we work a little on it I think it could work out to be very awesome... I know I'm so far from the greatest mapper on these forums and I'd love to have an opportunity to work with some of those that are. Even if we wont use that much custom material. Quote

hamst3r Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Colaberation sounds like a very good idea, mainly on a small and limited level though, community projects usually turn out horrid or fail with in a month or so.....how bout contests? pick a theme; set a deadline; mabey even get some prizes, and then realease like the top 5 or so in a map pack. An old community I was in used to have things like these and they were great fun: watching peoples' maps change and evolve, and a lil` competiton does not hurt, only inspires. Quote
von*ferret Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 The point of this is not to get paid or prizes, its to get known, have fun, and get some proffesional practice. Quote
Skjalg Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Well then.. We should start seeing who's interested so we can move onto getting people into teams and organizing this. As soon as we have that done we can all decide on a theme and set the time limit... Quote
