Zacker Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 When I saw the first shots I was not too sure of what to think of it. It had potential, but it also lacked a lot of things. You are on the right track for sure, it's getting better and better. What currently annoys me the most is the texture with the flying cars. The texture looks like some 128*128 highly compressed texture. It does simply not have the quality to be as big as it is. It is also very visible that the flying cars are 2d, but that might be different ingame when they move. At least I have seen it done before and it looked ok. Quote
Schmung Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Ditto the comment on the flying cars. Maybe use more/larger textures? Or model each car as a plane with a texture and animate that. Shaping up nicely though. Get some colour variation and logos on those crates and drop in some coloured trims here and there to break things up. Coming along really well. Quote
misterbister Posted February 5, 2006 Author Report Posted February 5, 2006 t's starting to look really cool now. What I would say is that there's an overuse of spotlights and other flashy effects -- when you cram lots of them into a map it can cheapen the look. A lot of the areas are not very well lit (in terms of visibility, not aesthetics) which can be a problem when actually playing it -- especially in visually 'messy' maps like this (hi tech, lots of wires, lights, consoles, etc). I'd break the look up by using more localised lighting dotted around the place (such as q2dm8 style walkway lights embedded in the ground), or a few bright street lights to illuminate distinct areas. Some distinct lighting / architecture to act as landmarks would probably be a good idea, too. I really like the balance of the colours you've got going on and the look in general. The indoor areas need a lot of work, but I'm sure you can improve them just as you've improved the rest of the map compared to the last update Smile Right, ive removed some of the flashy effects. Ill look into the other stuff. Dude, the map looks good but why are you showing stuff with poor jpg quality. Ruins the fun for me Sad Ok, more quality pics coming up, just for you... Sorry, im not good enough on Photoshop to make better looking cars. Ive used them from the "dm_neon". Ive been thinking about bumpmapping them to make them look more 3D, but will the bumpmap scroll along with the vehicles? Ditto the comment on the flying cars. Maybe use more/larger textures? Thanks for the comment anyways. Time for a small update. Ive had lots of great feedback from all over the place, thanks alot for that everyone. This week ive been working on the indoor environments, a good friend made a new texture for the windows on the skyskrapers. The texture is not final, but much better than the one before i think. Heres a pic of the new warehouse. I started with chopping a hole in the floor and continued from there, personally i think it looks pretty cool, however its not done yet. Feedback would be very helpful =). Heres a pic of the new windows. (Yes i know about the texture alinment, im workong in that). Heres a pic of the new lab. The area felt a bit claustophobic, and i didnt have very much space to build on, so I added windows to make it feel less tight. Quote
skdr Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Still bad JPG quality, looks good tho Quote
misterbister Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 Progress: I just wanted to say that im not dead... yet. I havent done anywhing to the map since the last week because of shitty school work which me and my group had to present, and it went straight to hell.. Anyways, ill hopefully be alble to give you some updates next week. Quote
misterbister Posted February 27, 2006 Author Report Posted February 27, 2006 Right.. Time for a small update. Ive been making textures and remade the 3D-sky a bit during this week, however theese changes are small so i wont bother you with more pics. Ive also done a remake of the elevator shaft to match the detail level of the rest of the map. Many people has told me about the map being a bit too dark, so i thought it would be wise to make the shaft a bit more bright aswell. Heres a pic of how it looked like before: Heres a pic of how it looks right now. Ive had complaints about the screenshots being too compressed, so this time i havent compressed them at all! Hopefully you wont kill me for making the load times too long. Quote
Schmung Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 I like that lots. Good stuff. Loving the indeted red panel light thingy doofer. Quote
misterbister Posted March 15, 2006 Author Report Posted March 15, 2006 Sorry about the delay, but I've been busy in school. All ereas have now been enhanced and look quite well, but there are still lots of stweaks to do before final. However im quite close to releasing a beta-version of the map. The biggest changes are new textures, but there are also places that have been enhanced by more detail. I have brighten all of the screenshots to make it easier to see for those who use CRT monitors. Heres a corridor that has been enhanced quite a bit, however it still looks quite dull. I will add more detail to it before the final version. This room has been enhanced with new textures, aswell as the blue monitor in the ceiling. The chairs to the right will hopefully be replaced by models before final release. Here's a pic from a scene that hasnt been enhanced with new detail, however new textures has been applied. Its quite difficult to see them from this angle thoug (stupid me). The same scene from a different angle, here you can more clearly see some new textures that I made (the orange ones for example) . Heres the warehouse from a different angle. it hasnt been enhanced much, except for the orange textures to the far left. Heres the elevator shaft from a different angle, the new stuff is that the connections to the shaft has been detailed and fit in properly. Quote
General Vivi Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 ............... im going to redowload dm again so i can' play this map... Quote
Schmung Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Awesome. WIth the first shot, how about using that recessed red light thing you've got going in the elevator? Would liven up the trims on those lower walls a treat. Alternatively you could put the occasional cut out lit panel between those beams. Really like the style and feel of this map and it gets better every time you show us more screens. Good luck getting that beta out, can't wait to run aroundd it. Quote
Meotwister Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Yes this map has progressed well. Are you gonna change that carpet texture? I think (personally) that carpet doesnt fit in with futuristic city settings. Just my opinion though. Quote
