"YOU WANT ME? TAKE ME. TAAAAKE MEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!"

I think stones about bad dialogue should remain pocketed until further notice ;)

It's a dumb B movie action flick that can take itself a little too seriously at times and goes on a little too long for its own good, but it's not the worst movie I've ever had to sit through. That award goes to Left Behind.

Oh I'm sorry you tried to nullify my points by insulting my work. That's a really prick thing to do. As if to imply by one line that was misdelivered, by one of you friends no less, somehow makes me a bad writer whose opinion about any particular piece of dialogue is somehow moot.

But hey, you're obviously right. You made a fairly innocent thread about a movie where we could share opinions; into a personal attack. Having now seen the light, King Kong was obviously great.

Thanks Ted.

Oh McThreeway, come on man, it was just a playful jab in the ribs. I meant no harm by it, man. Sorry for ruffling your feathers. :(

well i'm going to see the movie this week, and hope i will enjoy it and not decide the movie sucks because some minor details do not conform with reality (seriously it's a movie about a gargantic gorilla).

I shouldn't be reading threads like this :(

um....

Overall: a lot of interesting ideas in different areas of film thrown together in a giant clusterfuck of a movie that i'll never want to see again, despite enjoying some parts of it greatly. (by contrast, i own all 3 SE's of LotR). Anyway...basically what Fletch said.

My Analysis:

- Shitty writing. All around. I guess they were going for more of a *nod* or *wink* to the original Kong but I only saw that once like 8 years ago and I think a lot of the nods/winks didn't really work. Sure, the nod to Fay Rae (original female lead in 1933 Kong) was cute...but whatever. So many story threads left unclosed you end up not caring about the whole of it. (ok...not really different from Fletch's points...)

- Worst character development evarrr At least in LotR the characters develop and have some complexity about them.

- To many bugs I didn't think all the bugs and the Penis Monsters were really that needed. Cool in concept, but I just looked away cause I just had a Macho Combo platter at El Torito before the movie. But the excessive nastiness was not needed for a mass mainstream LotR-esque audience. It's okay to do some grossout-ness but they went over the top and too far to keep many people's eyes on the screen. At one point i looked back during the festival of bugs and most people were holding their hands over their eyes. Nice job, Peter. And this links too...

- WTF? Jello dinosaurs? Yeah those tumbling brontosaurusususususes must have been a cool concept on paper but on film, that whole scene annoyed the shit out of me. Those tiny humans would all have been squashed. (And the dinosaurs looked shitty.) The scene went on and on and on, i just couldn't take it. Remember that Godzilla movie that came out in the late 90's? There was this 20 minute chase scene that made a shitty movie even shittier. This tumbling jello-dinosaur scene had the same effect. Oh yeah, so did the bug scene.

I did like the stuff in NY (the scene in the park on the ice wasn't too bad.)

I thought Kong itself looked good and the fight with the T-rex(es) was crazy and bullshit, but actually entertaining and probably my favorite action part.

Bah...movie did about $66million or so in the US in first 5 days? I heard industry analysts were expecting about $100 million. Put it in perspective, would rather see LotR (any of the 3) in theatre again than Kong.

I think the biggest tragedy about the movie is that Kong is really the most interesting character and he has no dialogue and at the end, is just a big ape.

Just saw it.

AWESOME movie! Im not going to write a novel about it but it was definately one of the best movies I've seen. CGI was awesome, specially Kong's expressions etc. Also they had a nice CGI Chicago (was it?) modeled.

5/5

If you mean the city at the and part of the movie (kong climbing in to the tall building and all) it was New York, the Empire State Building is a dead giveaway.

i thought it was really good, after reading all of those negative comments, i cant really say you guys are wrong, but i thought it more of an action film i guess...i did love the Trex fights wow, comeon that was cooool, and the bug scene WOW GROSS!!! i mean seriously, that was gross, i liked it! i thought actually NYC scenes were kinda the lamest, like the theater scene, and Naomi Watts walking through the fog, someone straight up laughed in the theater and i didnt blame them. I did think it was sad, Kong looked really good, downfall of this movie is taking it too seriously i guess.
