i havnt seen kong yet, though i want to, as for LOTR, ya they were good, but still grossly overrated, as for my thoughts on Peter Jackson, to me he'll always be the director of Dead Alive (thats not a good thing)...

Amazing movie in my opinion.

The Tex Rez Fights, wow, best.

The movie accually made me cringe a couple of times,(Bug Part in the tree) and that hasnt happened since i first seen Indiana Jones - Temple of Doom.

actually that IS a good thing, cause his splatter movies are freakin hilarious. It's amazing to see how much he has improved since then....Going from crappy movies like that to something like LOTR or King Kong is just incredible.

I honestly thought it was one of the shittiest movies I've seen this year. To be fair, I'll make a list.

The Bad:

-Horrible matting. You could see really bad edges and glows on too many scenes.

-Dinosaurs looked like shit. Jurassic Park came out 10 years ago and looks lightyears ahead of these things.

-CGI charachters had horrible physics logic to them. If all those brontosauruses were hitting the edges of those cliffs, rocks would be sheered off, flesh would be ripped, and all kinds of other shit. They al behaved like they were gummi-dinos. Also, Kong would not be supported by a frozen pond that is clearly only a foot thick of ice when the mortar hit it.

-The writing was attrocious. I'm fine with making a fun, campy action film ( I love Pirates of the Caribbean), but the writing took itself soooooo damned seriously it was painful to listen to. I felt like Peter Jackson was writing this shit at a 17 year old girl's slumber party.

-Major pacing and timing issues made it way too long. Look at the last Harry Potter movie. It is about the same time as this, but moves soooooo mcuh quicker. Shots were drawn out for no reason, scenes lasted too long, and the pacing was just not there. What makes this problem worse is everybody knows the story of Kong and knows where things are headed.

-Zero character depth. The two main characters fall in love in about 5 seconds. Jack Black's character doesn't grow a single damn bit. When it looked like the smug actor was actually growing by staging a rescue, he throws it away by turning back to a prick when he gets to NYC. Again, this is just bad writing.

-Every other shot was the sun rising. I shit you not. It's the island of the perpetual sunrise.

-The bitch kept climbing to the top of the building. I mean come on, you've almost fallen off a dozen times. You've been shot at by planes. You know the damn ape is going to die and fall off. Keep your ass inside where it's safe, dummy.

-The islanders just fucking disappeared. It's not a big island, especially the walled off section, how the hell did 1000 people just disappear?

-Infinately spawning Red Shirts for the boat crew.

-There was no payoff for the investment of time on the kid on the boat.

The good:

-Kong looked good.

-Everything from when they arrive back in NYC excluding the ice skating shit and the stuff at the top of the building was great looking and enjoyable to watch.

-The boat captain was a good character.

-The vagina/worm/tentacle raep monster.

I absolutely loved every minute of it, sure it has it's flaws but it's still a damn great movie.

Pop quiz: This is actually the second Kong remake produced, an utterly awful adaptation was released in the 80's.

Really awesome movie, although I must admit that I agree with many of Fletch's points. The most obvious one being pacing and length. There was really alot of stuff that could easily be cut. When you make a 3hour+ movie I think you really need a good reason to put in that extra hour or so (except if you're just showing off in some extended version~LOTR).

But it was a really kickass movie, kong was fucking amazing, truely stunning stuff. A truely touching tale. Also one thing that I had feared and had heard was that Jack Black would totally stick out in it, which he didnt. Did a really good job, except for the part where he gets his picture taken, that JB stare, hmmmm.

Anyway ill wait till tomorrow with my final verdict, need to sleep on this one :)

Copy/paste job from another forum :

hrrmm, I liked it muchly. It was however, too fricking long. The stuff in New York was somewhat 'bleh' for me and there were sections in the jungle that felt surplus to requirements as well. I think the relationship between Kong and Ann is given way, way too much attention. You get the point after about the 30th lingering close-up. Over than that - great. Action squences superb, Kong brilliant, Jack Black was very, very good indeed and the direction was great. I loved the first hour of the film before they set out, but the film could do with harsher editing in the middle and at the end.

So, yeah, I agree with Fletch about most of that. The plausability bit didn't bother me overly, there's a fucking 30 ft ape, so my belief is pretty much suspended right there. The dinos were a bit bunk though.

I thought it was pretty amazing. Once they reach the island it's just one ridiculously good scene after another. Especially the scenes between Ann and Kong which could have been over done or awkward but they worked really well.

I wasn't at all bothered by the length either. I guess some stuff could have been trimmed but when a giant gorilla is battleing three T-Rex's while suspended over a chasm by vines I'm not exactly checking my watch.

I pretty much despised it so greatly I went a bit limp halfway through. The characters seemed to be making choices (through UNBELIEVABLY BAD DIALOGUE) that resembled that of people in horror movies. AKA what's the most obvious way to get myself killed for the stupidest reason possible.

Some examples:

-What 18 year old kid in their right mind after seeing 20 FUCKING DINOSAURS GET IN A FIGHT AND DIE and many of his shipmates, whom he asummedly cares about, decides now is the time to prove himself? He gets so caught up in trying to convince his superiors that he can fight that it becomes ridiculous, even to the point of trying to prove himself to a man that's already dead. What? Also HE NEVER DOES. They capture Kong and it just peters out, he never appears again.

-Naomi Watts constant decision making process of "what stupid stunt can I pull on the edge of a 1000 foot cliff or empire state building." She does a FLIP, I shit you not, onto ROCK to make King Kong laugh... like 7 inches from the edge of a cliff.

In other words I pretty wrote off every character in the movie for motivations that don't make any sense at all. Including Kong himself. It's shown early in the movie what Kong does with all the barmaids that the disgusting raisin-faced islanders give him. He kills them.

So lemme get this straight Naomi's Watt's annoying bad character... He's killed all the girls before you... he's killed half the crew you grew to love and dance with on the ship (which is made a big point early on.) He tried to kill your love interested Jack a NUMBER of times. He's kills hundreds if not thousands in New York. AND YOU STILL ARE LIKE OMG SRSLY DONT KILL HIM PLZ!

You lady are retarded and deserve to die.

Seconding Fletch's WORST MOVIE I'VE SEEN ALL YEAR
