R_Yell Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Hello everyone, I'm new here. This is a map I'm making for a mod called Wanted: Outlaws&Lawmen. It's called Presidio because is based on some old constructions made by spanish (like me ) in california and arizona. It's a mix of fort and mission. Current progress is above 50-60%, I'm modeling most of the props. Quote
Schmung Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 What sort of freakish cave is that with utterly smooth rocks? Looks like an excellent start though, should be good once you've layered on some more detail and gotten those props done. Maybe a fountain or well in the square? Quote
PhilipK Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Town is looking nice With some neat details it can be really cool. I'm not a fan of the very soft "rocks" tho. Would love to see more edgy stuff. Quote
insta Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Yeah, the terrain needs to be roughed up a little. The town is good though, I like the central tower/dome. Quote
RD Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 fuckin awesome Not very detailed but luv the skybox. The map reminds me of a map i played before but i cant remember what game it was for. Hidden & Dangerous 2? Quote
Pericolos0 Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 awesome, but most textures are abit too bland for my taste. The skybox is cool but i dont liek how the terrain looks flatshaded with such a low res texture. Quote
Evert Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Looks great for a start. Reminds me of the singleplayer version of Villa of the first perfect dark. Quote
R_Yell Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 Thx for the comments. Caves and exterior rocks should be less round, I'm in the middle of morphing process. Also note that rocks are some kind of limestone, so final result shouldn't have too many edges, and there is a mesh resolution limitation too. 3dskybox should use a hand painted texture, I'm not good painting even a wall, but I'll try to do my best. Need more resolution also, but the next stop is 2048 (it uses a normal map too), and thats for every half, because mountains are split in two models. If any curious, this is the original place: Buell Park in Arizona, an old crater that I found watching aerial pics. http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/8669 ... lo22mz.jpg http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6392 ... web6vl.jpg Quote
Pericolos0 Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 dont give it a normal map, it doesn't really look very good on mapmodel in source and seen from you pics you don't even notice it's there Quote
R_Yell Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 Yes, normal map is not very visible in the shots I showed, I'm making another map where effect is near what it should, depends mostly on sun incidence. Anyway, model shadows are improved with normal map, and using HDR (I tested it) normal map is much more perceptible, so I'll keep. Quote
von*ferret Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Your hills are way too smooth and barren compared to the rest. Work on that. Town is coming along nicely. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 very awesome including your ship Quote
ginsengavenger Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Looking cool although it's pretty wide open and often feels empty. Really glad to see some spanish/southwest style architecture, it's something I've felt lacking in maps for a long time. The genuine landforms are really cool, are you using USGS data? Quote
JynxDaddy Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 I love the terrain you got there, never seen that in a game before. Quote
R_Yell Posted December 15, 2005 Author Report Posted December 15, 2005 Yes, it's a USGS digital elevation model. Quote
