Kosmo Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Bloodrayne: The Movie, don't get confused when the movie is set over two centuries before the protagonist is even born. Yet another movie from Boll that has nothing to do with the original game it was "based" on, well I should say that it is loosely based since the similarities end with the title and few character names. Funny thing is that usually if you lose around 10 million dollars you don't get to make another movie, but Uwe Boll is magically again in the directors seat, making anther horrible movie and he is booked for many more movies. Where does this guy get his money? Quote
PhilipK Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 He's friends with Chuck Norris. Seriously tho. I have no idea and I'm just trying to stay as far away from his "creations" as possible. Quote
Mazy Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Where does this guy get his money? German tax holes Quote
Jezpuh Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 I read an article a while ago about whoever funds him, will stop if this movie also sucks. Not sure though, since I read it a long while ago. But we can only hope Quote
Kosmo Posted December 12, 2005 Author Report Posted December 12, 2005 In his interview at IGN, he keeps talking about "knight film" when he refers to Bloodrayne. Not having played Bloodrayne I don't know how this fits in, but I heard that the movie is based on 17th century and there are no Nazis what so ever, and everything is just way off. But I'm glad that Uwe didn't get the Hitman rights. Quote
PhilipK Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 But I'm glad that Uwe didn't get the Hitman rights. Mazzle disagrees!! Quote
Mazy Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Oh yes, he has expressed lots of interest in the Hitman games, and has been crawling all over the movie rights, fortunatly without any luck. Dont worry though, after the FarCry movie (looks at Frie) he'll probably wind down and stop making movies. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Essentially, Boll is a modern-day director. He's able to secure the investors (mostly German, in Hollywood often derisively referred to as "stupid German money"), secure the rights for cheap, picking games with only moderate brand recognition, does all of the actual production himself, and swiftly cranks out a movie. While under normal circumstances a director's movies could gross so little he's eventually shut out from every operating studio, it is rumored Boll is exempt because he funds them under a loophole in German tax law that is supported by contributors and actually rewards movies that perform badly, via a writeoff at the end of the year. It has been recently reported that the aforementioned loophole in German tax law has been revised. Starting on January 2006, contributors to failed movies will no longer be able to profit from failed films through a tax writeoff at the end of the year. This may well result in an end to Boll's film career, as it would make it impossible for him to capitalize on films that fail at the box office, resulting in a loss of investors. here you go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uwe_Boll Quote
Izuno Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 i personally believe all the bad movies based on video games are failures of will: the movie makers simply did not have the will to make a good movie, for whatever reason. As this thread reveals, it seems very likely that Uwe Boll actively has the will to create bad movies. Someday, someone is going to make a movie based on a video game and it is going to be awesome. Kosmo Posted December 12, 2005 Author Report Posted December 12, 2005 There already has been awesome game movies, some movies are just more awesome than others Quote
ReNo Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 FFVII: Advent Children was pretty awesome, though probably doesn't really count given it's reliance on experience of the game to be truly enjoyable. Quote
DudeTor Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 oh dear, as long has he doesn't get his hands on the rights to produce a MGS or Half-Life! Quote
RD Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 what films did he make? (i know i could google this but its your job to tell it) Quote
Kosmo Posted December 12, 2005 Author Report Posted December 12, 2005 The House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark and Bloodrayne (post-production) so far, but he has the rights for Farcry, Hunter: The Reckoning, Dungeon Siege (also in the makes), Postal and Fear Effect. He is trying hard to get Half-Life and MGS rights like Dude said. Quote
