FrieChamp Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 The MOD which has won Epic's "Make something Unreal" contest, will hit stores errr "servers" in January. They won Epic's contest, an UE 3.0 license and release an enhanced version of their MOD via Valve's Steam. Ah the irony Dunno if I'll buy it though. Zacker Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Very interesting to see something built on UE on Steam. Quote
Fletch Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Very interesting to see something built on UE on Steam. Remember, Steam is just a very efficient Bittorrent. Doesn't matter what engine the end prodcut runs. Quote
rockdude86 Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 only none valve game that comes to steam that i wil actually buy wil probably be sin episodes... who want to pay for a FREE mod anyway?... Quote
Thrik Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Because it's not a mod. Read the interview. But yeah, this is good stuff. I still reckon Valve are going to end up as a super-major player in the digital publishing business as time goes on. No end of third-party games have signed up with them in the past few months alone -- HL2 really opened the floodgates. They have a (what is now) stable system, a huge userbase and it's already on many PC gamers' systems. It's ideal for developers who don't want to front physical publishing costs. Quote
JynxDaddy Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 Good for Valve. I want Steam to become the way I buy all my games. Quote
TomWithTheWeather Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 I don't think they won a UE3 license. Just UE2.5. Quote

Yeah I just read about some other company today who are going to distribute their game via Steam (can't remember who but it was a moderately big name) Quote

It's not that big name, but it is a MMOG. :edit: Forgot about Warren Spectors new game, but it's a Source game that is distributed through Steam so it's a no brainer. Quote
FrieChamp Posted November 24, 2005 Author Report Posted November 24, 2005 its built on Unreal 2.5 though Did I say anything else? I don't think they won a UE3 license. Just UE2.5. Quote from the interview: John Gibson - Well we do have a certain license for the hottest new gaming engine (Unreal Engine 3) that we won in the MSU contest we have to figure out how to use J But for news on what we’ll do with that you’ll just have to stay tuned. Kosmo Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 Am I way off, but isn't UE3 engine with all the goodies worth something like 250,000 dollars? Quote
Hourences Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 UE2 is, 3 is alot more already afaik, certainly if you want some goodies Quote
Schmung Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 I think I may well buy it. I've heard very, very good things about it. Quote
TomWithTheWeather Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Last I checked... UE2 = $300,000 - $700,000, depending on options; but this is probably cheaper now that UE3 is out. UE3 = I've heard upwards of $1,000,000, but it probably varies depending on options. Quote
