Minos Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 It's that time of the year again: BUY NOTHING DAY In less than a month, millions of people around the world will ask for the ultimate refund -- by opting out of consumer culture. For 24 hours on Buy Nothing Day, November 25, we remember that no one was born to shop, we pause, make a small choice to participate by not participating, and we regain some calm. What will you do to tell Nike, McDonald's, Walmart and the rest that enough is enough? Why not run with some ideas dreamt up by the more than 3,500 jammers who took part in last year's biggest ever Buy Nothing Day? Set up credit card cut ups, don white coats and vaccinate against affluenza, give out free samples of nothing - anything to show that the best things in life are free. You can find more ideas and tools in the Action Pyramid at: http://www.adbusters.org/bnd If you haven't done so already, join your local jammergroup to coordinate with like-minded individuals: http://www.adbusters.org/bndjammergroups gogo mapcore! jfas Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 ive always liked adbusters, i always try to pick up with i see it at a book store or our local art supply store, but i really dont believe in these "one day boycotts" i suppose they do send some sort of message, especially if they get media play, but i saw the cnn interview with adbusters editor in chief, and *uck cnn's host, her god damn argument was 'oh COME ON, COME ON' what the f is that? at least take it seriously. he did a really good job though in the interview. anyway... power to the people, solidarity, etc. and what not! JynxDaddy Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 But there is gonna be a price drop in iPods that day Quote
ginsengavenger Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Something like nine or ten years since my first Buy Nothing Day I used to be waay into adbusters back in the day. The editorials and subvertisements were some of the first things to open my eyes to some of the brutal realities of this world. Now I'll pick up an issue every couple years or so just to keep tabs - but they're so horribly depressing to read I just can't take much more than that. Quote

Minos Posted November 9, 2005 Author Report Posted November 9, 2005 Oh yeah, what sucks about this kinda thing is the media coverage. But ironically, they depend on the media to be so big. And what sucks even more about this is that people will come back to their shopping routines the day after it. Well, for me, buy nothing day is like... everyday! Not that I want, but I all my little money goes to paying these fucking expensive bus tickets. Quote
Kosmo Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Ok, what I'm going to say next is going to blow your mind. let's say that you are a devoted fan of the 'Buy Nothing Day' and like so many years past, you have bought nothing that day, but this time it will be different, you have a new girlfriend and you two are smooching and cuddling and all that, eh, sweet? So, then comes the sex part, but OHNOES! She is not on the pill and you are out of rubbers! Will you suffer the consequenses or denounce your devotion to the BND? Think about it, it's cosmic. For that being said, I usually respect the day and I'm going to keep my money away from the stores, but I'm always prepared to trash my believes for something much better than what I currently believe, keep an open mind.
