Kedhrin Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Hello! I'm learning UnrealEd for the first time ever. evr. I could use anyone who is experienced with this program to answer questions for me on the fly, now - i won't be bugging you all the time, rarely if that. I've used a lot of software, but sometimes this program is crashing on me, etc. and I just have a few questions. anyways, I'll post my questions here, but if you are an unrealed guru, please contact me on my IM programs so we can chit-chat thx! question 1! I create a new terrain (one terrain on the map) and it does not show up (i'm in wireframe mode) unless i create another terrain. Then they both show up, so i delete one of them. Then i try to select that terrain in the terrain list and it crashes DOH! k. Im - AIM - Kedhrin MSN - Kedhrin@yahoo.com ICQ - 52477482 YAHOO - Kedhrin@yahoo.com thx!

Grinwhrl Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 If u have any good tutorials online let me know too, im sure i will be learning it soon enough.
Hourences Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Pay and you can ask me Seriously, use irc, goes faster. irc.enterthegame.com #unrealed biggest, smaller second version at irc.quakenet.org same channel And dont make 2 terrains, make sure zoneinfo has bterrainzone or whatever true, make sure the terrain has at least 1 texture layer and rebuild geometry a time Tutorials at 3dbuzz.com and planetunreal.com/architectonic
Eliot Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Then why don't you tell him! Honestly, Eliot, your post was like a business pitch. i told him on msn but yeh it wasnt that problem but i have gave him a link to a beter terrain tutorial
Kedhrin Posted November 8, 2005 Author Report Posted November 8, 2005 the problem i'm having with the terrain is some stupid ati driver issue, like most of the problems I'm having with unreal. I don't know why it does it, last night i got so frustrated i was hitting build like 10 times, flying around the viewport, clicking, moving, etc. and it just popped in out of nowhere - just OMGHEREIAMJUSTKIDDINGLOL! it also does that weird shit when i move the terrain, for example when it finally is showing up i'll move it to the origin - the actor helper icon goes there, but the terrain itself doesn't. So I move the terrain just a slight nuge and it pops into place - dunno if that's a known issue as well. but alas i finally did get terrain to show up and did my first texture layer yay! but then it crashed on me for something again, i got mad and stepped on a kitties neck. i'm thinking it's this ati card. can't wait to get my 6600 back
Hourences Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 I always buy nvdia for a reason However I never heard of your problem before, no one with an ati has reported such problems as far as Im aware so either you got a weird pc or bad drivers or you do other stuff wrong and are blaming the wrong thing
Lee3dee Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 it cannot be an ATI driver problem because my laptop runs the editor with no problems. Im using the a few weeks old drivers tho. hmmm. Buy nvidia and take the ATI card back! hehe

Bl1tz Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 It's not your drivers. I just went through the same exact thing, trying to get terrain to behave. http://www.planetunreal.com/architecton ... part6.html ^^ This is an outstanding tutorial for getting your terrain up and running. The UDN tutorials are missing some important steps and instructions surprisingly enough. In order to determine what size you should set XSize and YSize, divide the size of the room by the default scaling of 64. For instance, if we had a room that was 32000 x 32000 x 32000, we would divide 32000 by the default scaling of 64: 32000 / 64 = 500. Therefore, we'd set XSize and YSize at 500. For our purposes, our room is 4096, so 4096 / 64 = 64. This is very important to making sure that your terrain works. It might seem a bit complicated, but follow it step by step and I guarantee it will work. Then apply the same values to the different sized terrain zones you will need.
