I dont know if this is the right forum but I'll give my question a shot. When I iron my dress shirts and spray them with starch it reminds me of the good old days when the shirt was brand new.

Obviously this also happens when I wash the shirt or whenever it gets wet....it gives it that vibrant original shine. Is there any way to spray the shirt with something to make it keep this? I realize that it would be the equivalent to a stain but I wonder if theres a more popular/streamlined method. Thanks a bunch :)

If you have dark colored dress shirts, I sugest using something like Woolite Dark Laundry formula istead of normal detergent. It really helps prevent fading. Other than that, avoid using anything that has bleach in it.

From everything that I've been told (by women), once a shirt starts to fade, it's going to stay like that. So the best you can do is try to prevent from getting that way in the first place by cleaning it as gently as possible. This meants light detegents, steam cleaning, and dry cleaning. That and invest in better shirts in the first place. More expensive fabrics have better base materials and finishes which keep the pigment and luster longer.

I wouldn't spray your clothes win any sort of oils Duffy. Oils really fuck up fibers in a way that you can't undo. I've seen some "luster" sprays at dress clothes stores before, but most of them are silicon based and are deisgned for you to spray on things like suit coats.
