The Postman Posted October 15, 2005 Report Posted October 15, 2005 Hi there folks. It's your kindly neighborhood Postman. I'm here in search of a modeller. I need him or her to help us out on a pet project of mine that's in full development for the PC that will be a limited MMO involving zombies in a large city (think GTA size). It's low-poly and involvement is for fun purposes. We're a condensed but largely professional group who are seeking to create a value title in the MMO field. The game is of yet untitled, but full work with the Torque engine and written docs - as well as some preliminary artwork by yours truly - are underway and it's looking to shape up into quite the engaging and robust design. Currently we're looking for: Player modelers who won't mind the odd prop model either. - Job will require the complex creation of low-poly but robust models that will be able to swap clothing and items (almost all items you have in game will be visible on the body in some form, and you can add "armor" in the form of leather jackets or bulletproof vests, etc). If you're interested please send me an email at postification@gmail.com or contact me via AIM at "PunkPosteh" Cheers, and I look forward to any responses from any of you!

curman Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 Can I just ask, besides obviously the entire environment system of an MMO deal. But what makes this different than any other zombie game/mod?
alexroyce Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 A zombie MMO mod actually seems like a really good idea for me. FPS' just cant get it right.
von*ferret Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 my zombie walks slower than your zombie~~~ actualy sounds cool, what do you have planned for the levels?
alexroyce Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 Well i thought he meant that humans would just be in a huge sprawling land of zombies and they had to survive.. One youre dead, you gotta restart your character. That would be cool. Not "everyones a zombie, gogogogo!"
Grinwhrl Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 A zombie MMO mod actually seems like a really good idea for me. FPS' just cant get it right. Dont be to sudden on this, Until u play NMRiH. Reason other zombie fps's dont make it right is mainly becuase of cheap software or the games just are not put into a realistic stand point. Besides that, I'd like u to tell me how many u have played, becuase there are very few if any, and if there are any they are so low budget, of course they will be bad. So, we plan to change this! But then again some people dont like fps zombie games. I accually prefer Resident Evil 4 style playing the best. Good Luck with your MMO
curman Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 i dont think nmrih, or even any half-life 2 mod, could make a decent zombie mod in a large city setting with mass. amounts of zombies, sorry.
The Postman Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 Can I just ask, besides obviously the entire environment system of an MMO deal. But what makes this different than any other zombie game/mod? Mostly that we'll be taking it out of FPS and into 3rd person and attempting to make the world more "realistic" with a more robust item and inventory system and a world that's very open in a "sandbox" way (think GTA series) to allow players the ability to make their own stories, essentially. That and it'll be focusing on gameplay, ambience, and player creation in ways that FPS and next-gen technology simply won't allow (without incredible resources rivalling an actual game company). Well i thought he meant that humans would just be in a huge sprawling land of zombies and they had to survive.. One youre dead, you gotta restart your character. That would be cool. This is exactly the world the players will be dropped into. The city you're in (about 20x20 blocks big) will be rife with zombie infestation and different ways to get from place to place. You'll never start out together in a group and will have to find one another across the sprawling undead wasteland. A zombie MMO mod actually seems like a really good idea for me. FPS' just cant get it right. Dont be to sudden on this, Until u play NMRiH. Reason other zombie fps's dont make it right is mainly becuase of cheap software or the games just are not put into a realistic stand point. But then again some people dont like fps zombie games. I accually prefer Resident Evil 4 style playing the best. Good Luck with your MMO Thanks for the well-wishing. Good luck in your venture as well! As for FPS vs 3rd person. I honestly think that 3rd person captures the survival horror element much better, simply because of the psychological aspect of it. When you see your character you notice that you're just a normal person, and further more it's harder to imagine yourself as a chaingun toting badass. It's much easier to disconnect from the game when you're just a set of hands and a gun. Also I think there's a certain element of panic when you get attacked in 3rd person that you just don't get in 1st. Most survival horror games that I've played and enjoyed have been 3rd person (Res. Evil series, Silent Hill, and Fatal Frame) and other games that I've enjoyed the sandbox elements of have been in 3rd as well (GTA series). For survival horror I think you also need an element of roleplaying added in there to ensure the need to keep your character alive - that time invested in them, changing them and helping them along won't be so wasted or zip you back to respawn. That's just my take on it though.

LOL, i didnt say Massive large cities. As for FPS vs 3rd person. I honestly think that 3rd person captures the survival horror element much better, simply because of the psychological aspect of it. Hitman Series were great. Prince of Persia, etc. FPS are more fun though in the long run due to Multiplayer games. Thats why we are going with co op for NMRIH. But basically our main focus is barricading because truthfully no one has really done it. RE 4 had a bit of that with a few scenes, and those were some of the most fun parts in the game. That is also why we have such a large fan base. People really want to just barricade and shoot zombies. Feeling of Survival over scares is the best thing which we intend to do.
curman Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 LOL, i didnt say Massive large cities. Me either, gg.
