Grinwhrl Posted October 11, 2005 Author Report Posted October 11, 2005 Thanks everyone for the good crits, I knew that alot of you would point out that the texture on the building is the same in this alley, reason being its the same building all contencted together. There will be much more to see so i might start not being lazy and adding the tons of brick textures i have in There will be more city which you will start from and continue through away from the main streets which will be full of zombies. Think of it kinda like hl2 how u walk through the city avoiding open areas. Reminds me of Hipshots work, looking damn nice! The last and third from the bottom images aren't as nice tho, work on making them a little more interesting, like more junk and stuff on the ground, and mayby make one of the buildings "under construction". That'd give you some more of them sweet shadows~! - You know i did have tons of junk all over, but i took it out becuase of playibility reasons. But now that you say so, I will mess it back up Also great idea about the under construction, i was planning on something like this, there will be more alleys similair to this in other ares the players will go, so i will through it in somewhere, maybe near the strip club Looks really good, I like seeing curves rather than perfectly 90 degree angles upon every building. My advice, and don't freak out just cause you dislike me, is that the brick appears a bit redudant of a texture used. Theres more buildings that could be slapped in.. and also.. I mean if this is for the zombie modification shouldn't it appear somewhat more .. ruined? Thanks curman, anyway you mentioned runined becuase its a zombie mod. This level takes place the afternoon of the breakout, like in DOTD 2004. when i get a 3D skybox in, i wll have a few long strings of smoke in the background like u seen in that movie. Loving it. Like curman said, good curvy corners on the buildings. I also like the way you have walkways and other things to add some height variation. Though I would give it some variation in the texture usage. All the brick appears the same, a player could get lost D:! And as Evert said, it also reminds me of Hipshot's work. Awesome stuff overall! It may look big from the screens but trust me, u barely go 10 feet lol, you wont get lost. Overall i will add some custom and new bricktextures i have. Ill give it a shot and mix a few of the main building up a bit. Quote
kleinluka Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 I love it. The lighting is very nice and atmospheric and works well with your choice of textures. Is this map set in any particular place in the world or is just a random theme you came up with? Very nice. You have talent. Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 I like the truck which crashed into the wall corner, but you should add some more detail (for WIP this is perfectly fine though ). I would try to convey the ambience that everybody who lived/worked there before left whatever the heck he was doing and fled immediately...or got killed immediately. Maybe you even find some inspiration by looking at photos from destroyed New Orleans, people kepft finding "stills" from every day situations there since some people fled very rapidly. Quote
RD Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 First impression was boring map, kinda hard to see thru the generic theme. Then i saw ferret loving it so i had to look at it again, and it does look good. Just gotta do something to make it stand out more, maybe lower some buildings so the sky is visible (cant see it anywhere now). Quote
Tequila Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 It's very nice indeed, but more custom content wouldn't hurt to give the mod's maps their own unique style. Quote
st0lve Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 need more zombies and scary stuff D:! its a nice cityscape, but for a zombie\horror mod, its to clean. but nice~~ Quote

Is this map set in any particular place in the world or is just a random theme you came up with? Very nice. You have talent. Thanks, Its set in a fake world name. Everyone seems to think zombie mods are destroyed cities like resident evil. Our mod is more like the movies, the beginning of the zombie breakout, we are going for alot of realisim, a more natural look - real. I mean im doing the best of my ability here, hehe. If you have ever seen DOTD & DOTD 2004, alot of clean and dirty looks to that. My subway system is accualyl very dark with a freaky atmsphere including a creey soundscape. Also there has accually been a large amount of zombie fans who have requested more day time themes such as this. To many night maps in these games But other then that there will be more to it, i just uploaded my custom textures today so in the end u will see alot of custom textures. This is just the type of theme i am using for the above ground, and trust me it makes u feel like your almost in a real city with the lush sounds and in a horror movie with the screams, gun fire, and zombies banging on windows and doors. of course i havnt added everything. For more zombies This map isnt in the build yet and we are currently still rigging the zombies/characters for show in game. Quote
MJ Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 my only complaint is the texture starts to repeat itself on the building (tiling). Making it not so realistic. Other then that awesome job! Quote
⌐■_■ Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 Very nice indeed! Like von ferret said: u have talent. And not just a tiny bit of it. Lightning is very good and the curves are very sexy. Maybe adding some brickdecals on teh wall woudl improve the looks. But then again, that's somethin I prefer to do when I'm finished with all brushwork. Quote
von*ferret Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 as killer tomato said, use decals to hide repetitionin the bricks. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 you've got a lot of nice comments already. i just think you shouldn't use the same brick tex on every building. Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 I dig the cornered buildings. next gen corners baby Quote
