The Postman Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Very nice work. I really like the dusty coating. Owning a black car in the desert would just fucking suck though! Like riding around in a baked potato. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted October 11, 2005 Author Report Posted October 11, 2005 Brilliant! How was the skin made? I don't understand how vehicles are skinned... After the modeling you unwrap it. It loks like this then: http://www.insmod.net/team/upload/Users/Steppenwolf/mercedes190mesh.jpg The skinner then loads this gfx in photoshop and can paint on it. usualy he has also opened a program to watch the model. After a few steps he saves the skin, refreshes the model and can check his work in 3d. And this again and again and again... so long till the skin is finished. And thats the result: http://www.insmod.net/team/upload/Users/Steppenwolf/mercedes190mesh2.jpg Quote
ginsengavenger Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 you aren't going to use that normal map ingame are you? it doesn't seem to have any additional detail whatsoever which is really the entire *point* of a normal map, eh? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted October 12, 2005 Author Report Posted October 12, 2005 This is not a normal map. It is the unwrapped skin mesh exported with the models normal colors on it. This helps the skinner to identify the parts of the car on the mesh before he paints the skin over it. Very useful especially when modeler and skinner are not the same person. Quote

Did he use some photos or was it hand drawn from scratch? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted October 27, 2005 Author Report Posted October 27, 2005 Mix of photo and handpainted. Markus is very good with his wacom. Here is the demolished version: Quote
