Schmung Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 It didn't really feel as if I waws in control as Kong, which was quite annoying. It just bounced me from one bit to the next, I mashed some mouse button and that was that. TOok me all of tne mins to play through both segments (mostly because of the horrid controls when you're Jack). It was kinda cool, but very short lived and with little of the interactivity or freedom that I associate with games. Quote
jayrabbit Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 hehe when I've played the fps mission the first time, the t-rex ate me. there was a hint after I died and it said something like "use the food chain" so when i played it again i killed the flying dino with the spear and voila the t-rex ate it ah by the way, why doesn't Jack Black (the camera guy) say anything? I hope the final game will have the original voice of him. Quote
Algor Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 I thought it was total garbage... something about the FOV appearing to constantly being changed while looking around, and the view bob almost gave me motion sickness. All of the textures were blurred and the animations were really bad. For some great idea, hitting E to grab a spear shifted the view over to some dumbass who started yelling at me about something I couldn't care less about. By the time I went back to "myself" I was eaten by the T-Rex. I pretty much gave up at that point. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 something I couldn't care less about. I'd just like to congratulate you for phrasing that correctly. It's sad that so few of us are capable of that and it bugs me to no end... Quote
PhilipK Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 this was indeed a damn short demo. dunno what to think really... didnt get much impression from that really. Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Playing Kong was sorta interesting, very cinematic, but I didn't feel like I was in control either. I liked it when I picked up a wooden board to smash some of the dinosaurs, don't ask how I managed to pick it up though. I mashed buttons for most of the time as well. I couldn't play the human part because my mouse kept spinning around for whatever reason. Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 i got the same thing frie after 3 reinstalls and 2 seperate downloads and a reboot Quote
Mazy Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Holy fuck it ownz0rz!1 It might be linear, but it sure is intense. I found myself just whining as the T-Rex walked around the corners trying to get get me, totally awesome. Also the animation of Kong was superb, really good job. Love the look of the game. Wasnt super excited about the movie before, but after this I really want to see it, quite cool that a game can function as a trailer Quote
Fletch Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 I was unimpressed. The "cinematic" camera system for the Kong part was just annoying because it kept messing up my orientation. Overall, I thought it was a very shiny point and click adventure. There never really seemed to be something that couldn't be solved by clicking enough. Quote
-Stratesiz- Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 That was one shitty game. Awful controls, awful camera movement. There was no sense of being in control, I just clicked a few times and voila, I managed to do some flips and stuff and get to the other side of the canyon or whatever without even knowing what I was actually doing. Quick! Click your buttons as fast as you can!! Haven't we got past that stage in games already? It was also boring and lacked purpose. Quote
skdr Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Actually I was very impressed how the game works. It feels awesome. I think the Kong movement was awesome, jumping in the jungle and finishing the enemies. Awesome! Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 Quick! Click your buttons as fast as you can!! Haven't we got past that stage in games already? I think we haven't and I'm sure we will see more games with very easy controls in the future, selling enjoyable games for people who have never played a videogame before in their life is a big market Quote
ReNo Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 Man, this is one demo that is drawing varied reactions! I might have to try it just to see which side of the fence I sit on Quote
Mazy Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 It was also boring and lacked purpose. What is that supposed to mean? For a game thats based around a movie then I think it has lots of purpose. I can see how some people might be turned off by this if they go in expecting lots of gameplay and decision making, but as an experience like something you'd see in a movie it works terrific. But maybe thats also some of the reason why I also enjoy the Metal Gear Solid games so much, since they tend to be more based on cutscenes and story rather than actual gameplay. Anyway, cant be bothered to sit and defend this game, I just find it puzzling that so many people didnt like it, or at least liked it for what its trying to do. Quote
