Kosmo Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Many of you have propably read the news about the legal actions Adrian Carmack has taken against id software. This kind of BS gets id off from my "most respectable game developers"-list and in to the "piece of shit"-list with EA. I don't just rate game developers by the games they make or the franchises they own, I rate them by the news I hear about them, and how they treat their employees. So, any toughts on the matter? Hipshot Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Its just sad the way the industry is taking. Although, iD lost thier soul with Romero. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 bullshit and drama happen everywhere. the vast majority of it doesn't make it into the limelight. i guess sometimes it takes a forty-million dollar dispute. :/ Quote
Kosmo Posted September 29, 2005 Author Report Posted September 29, 2005 I don't care about the money, I just get sick when reading about the "began a death-of-a-1,000-cuts-style approach to force him out--closely monitoring his hours, stripping him of privileges, and denying him access to board-related documents" part. Yea, I felt really bad reading that part to. Its just pure sadism. Quote

Section_Ei8ht Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Gonna have to take all this with a grain of salt. Two sides to every story. Right now we're hearding from Adrian that id was evil to him. Remember what happened when Romero left? There was the Romero story (anti-id), and then the id story (which, according to masters of doom was the correct story). Two stories, none of us were there. I'd hate to think of myself as an id fanboy, but I probably am, so there has to be a good reason for id doing this. Just gonna hafta wait and see. Hope this doesnt put a damper on their next project. I cant wait to see what John Carmack has up his sleeve. Quote
Kosmo Posted September 29, 2005 Author Report Posted September 29, 2005 Well, we sorta heard the id side of the story some time ago, they were talking about the Doom3 project, and how they started and all that. John Carmack said that they (the dev team) said to the execs that they want to do new Doom, and that the time was ripe for a sequel, but the execs were not feeling them so they made an ultimatum to them, either they let them to do the Doom sequel or they resign and leafe id to shrivel and die. The John ends the story that, they got their will through BUT someone had to go, at first there was no names mentioned, but when a major developer 'kicks' off a guy (even tho he resigned from hiw "own free will") from their ranks, there is bound to be someone who knows who it was, and that was Mr. Adrian Carmack for reasons unknown, but now we know the reasons. I don't think that anyone in particular at id is evil, or a mastermind of some sort, but still the whole firm goes down low in my books, I don't have respect to any company that does this sort of thing to one of their long term employee and co-owner. Izuno Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 The sad truth is that this kind of thing happens all the time in corporate america, where people get forced or fired or resign or whatever because of personality conflicts, misguided expectations, or just diverging interests over time. Happens with rock bands, celebrity marriages, etc. In hollywood studios and game companies, it also happens all the time. I'm not surprised that something like this happened at iD. It doesn't really mean anything in my opinion, it's just how things go sometimes. Anyway, I just ran though my copy of today's WSJ, but I couldn't find this article in the 10 minutes I had to search for it. Quote
