NRG
Booyah, people! The fantastic XSI 5.0 is now available! Sorry if someone already posted this. Im a day late with the news delivery In any case, I know Im getting mine next week. For those of you who haven't played around with XSI before.. its a pretty kick ass poly modeling tool (I think Valved used this for production of Half Life 2).. http://www.softimage.com/home/ The best thing is that they are offering a free 30 day trial of this awesome application.. And if you like it, you can purchase the least expensive lisence for only $500 US! An awesome deal I think. Just thought I'd pass this info along. jayrabbit
What are the new improvements / features of the new version? I tried the XSI mod tool once, but I didn't like it.

NRG
Yeah.. the only free version is the Mod tool.. But for those of you who want to know about features, look here: http://www.softimage.com/Products/Xsi/v ... e_list.pdf If you haven't used XSI before.. you may not know what they are talking about in this PDF.. but its still a good read for those of you who are interested in feature details.. Here is a detailed list of what features are included in that version: http://www.softimage.com/Products/Xsi/v ... efault.asp and http://www.softimage.com/products/Xsi/v ... efault.asp Go to this area and fill out the this form if you want to download the free trial version for Foundaition (which is a step up from the mod tool): http://www.softimage.com/products/xsi/v ... asp?bhcp=1 A link to the Mod Tool Community: http://www.softimage.com/products/Mod/v ... community/ and of course, for those who are interested in learning more through other forums and tutorials.. there are a few sites to check out: http://www.xsibase.com http://www.cgtalk.com (the have application links to software like xsi, max, maya, etc...) Massive tutorial collection by Ed Harris: http://www.edharriss.com/ But the new features in 5.0 may not have found their way into the mod tool however (as the mod tool is still currently version 4.2). But if you really want to get on the ball with XSI's extremely robust power and can afford to part with a mere $500 US, I would strongly recommend the 5.0 Foundation version.. You get alot for so little. Hope this helps out alittle more. Cheers, NRG
