NRG Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 The amount of money spent into a collection like that is freakin' insane! I would have personally hooked up with Warren Buffet and get some serious kick ass investment info and sink my money into that instead of toys. Sure, he may be happy now, but when his house (and all its collectables) burns to the ground in a fire ball of death, Im sure he would have prefered to invest the money into good stocks / bonds etc... instead. The only way this could pay off is if this collection becomes extremely valuable in the future and he sells it. Otherwise, I don't see this helping him out financially when he's in his late 60's, too old to work and is crapping his diapers while living in a cardboard box because he cannot afford a retirement home.. Cheers NRG Quote

You are not slow and I must say that I hadn't looked at my post that way. That's not what I ment but I guess that interpretation kind of symbolizes one of my obsessions. Quote
mike-0 Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 your "way of life" should definitely not being wasting money on plastic figurines. go play a sport. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 It's ignorant and misunderstanding replies like these that are the reason people don't often post their collections to the interweb. Some people are collectors, they have the urge to collect. So what. It's not uncommon, in fact entire industries are rooted in collectors like this guy. Give them a break, it's how they enjoy spending their time and money and it's completely harmless. If you want to gawk at a waste of time and money why don't you ostracize destructive hobbies like drinking and gambling. Quote

You related him to yourself, because you think that only nerds collect those kinds of things? If the guy has inherited a fortune of millions of dollars and he goes to work, but has to spend his income somehow, because he doesn't actually have to work, so he spends all to these collectibles. Talking about narrowminded  Quote
